How much do rct jobs pay per hour?
What are some typical challenges faced by Radiologic Technologists in a hospital setting?
Radiologic Technologists in hospitals often encounter challenges such as managing a high patient volume, adapting to rapidly changing schedules, and ensuring accurate imaging under time constraints. They must also be vigilant about radiation safety protocols for both patients and staff, and occasionally work with patients who are anxious or have limited mobility. Collaboration with physicians and nurses is integral, as technologists often assist during emergency situations or provide critical imaging for diagnosis. Developing effective communication and adaptability skills can help overcome these routine challenges and contribute to a positive patient experience.
What is an RCT?
An RCT (Recruit) job typically refers to an entry-level position in the military or a specialized training program where individuals undergo instruction before assuming full responsibilities. Recruits often complete basic training, learning essential skills and protocols related to their role. The specific duties and training requirements depend on the organization and field, such as combat training in the military or technical instruction in other industries.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an RCT?
To thrive as a Radiologic Technologist (Rct), you need a solid understanding of anatomy, medical imaging techniques, and radiation safety, usually obtained through an accredited radiologic technology program and state/national certification. Familiarity with X-ray, CT, MRI machines, and radiology information systems (RIS/PACS) is essential. Attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare teams are valuable soft skills. These competencies ensure accurate imaging, patient comfort, and collaboration in fast-paced healthcare environments.

Job description
Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Our mission is to help ensure the security of the United States and its allies by providing high-hazard experimentation and incident response capabilities through operations, engineering, education, field, and integration services and by acting as environmental stewards to the Site's Cold War legacy. Our vision is to be the user site of choice for large-scale, high-hazard, national security experimentation, with premier facilities and capabilities below ground, on the ground, and in the air. Our 2,750+ professional, craft, and support employees are called upon to innovate, collaborate, and deliver on some of the more difficult nuclear security challenges facing the world today.
The Radiological Control Department is looking for a highly motivated individual, with an attention to detail to be a Principal Radiological Control Technician.
Key Responsibilities

- Assignments may be self-initiated, pursuing courses of action based on broadly defined project requirements.
- Viewed by colleagues as an accomplished technical performer and lead.
- Assigned areas include U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) properties and other locations within the U.S.
- Prior to use, verify that radiological instrumentation is functioning properly. Such instrumentation includes, but is not limited to, air sampling equipment, dose rate meters, and contamination monitors.
- Provides technical direction.
- Trains and mentors less experienced technical staff.
- Ensure generation of records for radiation surveys and other job activities utilize appropriate forms and logbooks, as required.

- Maintain training and qualifications current and attend onsite and offsite training as necessary to maintain competency in the radiological control field.
- Perform related work as assigned by supervisor.
- Research records of potential radiological sites to determine whether sites are radiologically impacted. Ensure that corrective actions taken to mitigate hazards are properly implemented and effective in eliminating unsafe conditions.
- Organize, evaluate, and interpret data by comparison against standards and guidelines.
- Assist in developing procedures, work plans, and work control documents.

MSTS is a background screening, drug-free workplace.
Hourly salary range for this position is: $39.27 - $58.91.
Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
