What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Quality First Coach, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Quality First Coach, you need expertise in early childhood education, experience with instructional coaching, and typically a relevant degree such as in education or child development. Familiarity with assessment tools like CLASS or ECERS, and knowledge of state quality rating and improvement systems (QRIS), are commonly required. Strong interpersonal skills, active listening, and the ability to motivate and mentor educators set exceptional coaches apart. These skills are crucial for guiding early childhood professionals in improving classroom quality and fostering positive outcomes for young children.

What are Quality First Coaches?

Quality First Coaches are early childhood education professionals who support child care providers and teachers in improving the quality of care and education they offer. They work as part of Arizona's Quality First program, providing guidance, resources, and feedback to help centers and homes implement best practices. Their goal is to enhance classroom environments, teaching methods, and child outcomes by building strong, collaborative relationships with educators. Quality First Coaches conduct regular visits, offer training, and help staff set and achieve goals for continuous quality improvement.

How does a Quality First Coach typically collaborate with early childhood educators to improve classroom practices?

Quality First Coaches work closely with early childhood educators by providing on-site support, conducting classroom observations, and offering constructive feedback to enhance learning environments. They partner with teachers to set achievable goals, model effective teaching strategies, and provide resources tailored to each classroom’s needs. Regular check-ins and collaborative problem-solving sessions help educators implement best practices, ensuring continuous professional growth and improved outcomes for children. This collaborative approach fosters a supportive work environment and builds lasting professional relationships.

Job description

Req ID:513151
At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. From high-speed trains, metros, monorails, and trams, to turnkey systems, services, infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility, we offer our diverse customers the broadest portfolio in the industry. Every day, more than 80 000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.
Could you be the full-time on-site Site Quality Director in West Mifflin, PA, US (Pittsburgh area) we're looking for?
Your future role
Take on a new challenge and apply your quality and continuous improvement expertise in a new cutting-edge field. You'll work alongside dedicated and innovative teammates.
You'll ensure that deliveries from the site meet the highest quality standards, driving a culture of excellence and fostering customer satisfaction. Day-to-day, you'll work closely with teams across the business (management committee, quality teams, and cross-functional departments), lead and develop quality teams, and implement quality policies and tools at the site level, and much more.
What makes this a Unique Career Opportunity:
  • Senior site leadership role with real authority to shape quality strategy and execution at the site.
  • Broad leadership influence: Opportunity to lead and develop a multi-discipline quality organization (project quality, industrial, supplier, QMS).
  • Visible, mission-critical role: Critical to site operations - fast impact and high visibility with regional quality leadership.
  • Career growth & mobility: Platform to expand into larger/global roles across Alstom (international opportunities and network building).

We'll look to you for:
  • Developing a Quality Culture and fostering a Right First Time approach across the Site,
  • Ensuring alignment of QCD (Quality, Cost, Delivery) objectives with contractual and regulatory obligations,
  • Driving continuous improvement plans to analyze and reduce Cost of Non-Quality (CONQ), Non-Conformance Reports (NCR), Safety issues, and Demerits,
  • Deploying the Quality Policy within the Site's management committee,
  • Overseeing the Quality and Safety assessments of products and services delivered, ensuring compliance with contractual quality requirements ,
  • Increasing Customer satisfaction through regular meetings, Customer Surveys, and product delivery controls,
  • Managing and escalating critical issues impacting safety and customer satisfaction,
  • Ensuring on-time completion of DFQ (Design for Quality) Gate Reviews and Suppliers' First Article Inspections (FAI), including waivers when necessary,
  • Ensuring site QMS (Quality Management System) conformance with Alstom standards, Customer standards, and relevant certifications (e.g., ISO9001, IRIS, CMMI, ECM).

All about you
We value passion and attitude over experience. That's why we don't expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we've listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:
  • Degree in Engineering, General Management, or Quality Management,
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience spanning quality management, project execution, and operational functions.
  • Experience in the rail industry is strongly preferred; experience in related industries will also be considered (e.g., aerospace, automotive, or large industrial/transportation equipment manufacturing such as buses or heavy machinery),
  • Leadership and team management capabilities: demonstrated ability to grow and coach a small team, influence cross functional stakeholders, agile/problem solving mindset, pragmatic approach, track record of executing objectives,
  • Experience working with quality tools, problem-solving methodologies, and project/operations management,
  • Familiarity with ISO9001/IRIS requirements, CMMI, and ECM,
  • Customer-oriented mindset with a focus on increasing satisfaction,
  • Data-driven decision-making and analytical skills,
  • Courageous and resilient approach to challenges,
  • Ability to manage cross-functional and multicultural teams,
  • Knowledge of railway industry norms, certifications, and standards - preferred.

Things you'll enjoy
Join us on a life-long transformative journey - the rail industry is here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills and experiences throughout your career. You'll also:
  • Work with a dynamic and multicultural team to ensure the delivery of high-quality products and services that meet contractual and regulatory requirements,
  • Progress towards becoming a leader in driving a quality-first culture, continuous improvement initiatives, and fostering customer satisfaction through operational excellence,
  • Utilise our innovative, data-driven, and inclusive working environment that values leadership, resilience, adaptability, and continuous learning,
  • Steer your career in whatever direction you choose across functions and countries,
  • Benefit from our investment in your development, through award-winning learning,
  • Benefit from a fair and dynamic reward package that recognises your performance and potential, plus comprehensive and competitive social coverage (life, medical, 401k).

You don't need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you'll be proud. If you're up for the challenge, we'd love to hear from you!
Important to note
As a global business, we're an equal-opportunity employer that celebrates diversity across the 63 countries we operate in. We're committed to creating an inclusive workplace for everyone.
