Job description

NLMK USA is looking for a Quality Engineer for the Portage, Indiana location (NLMK Indiana). We are dedicated to providing our employees with a safe, stable workplace where teamwork, attention to detail and quality customer service define our culture.
Job Summary: Is a part of the team responsible for product quality assessment and improvement. This may include product inspection, dispositioning, as well as product applications. Works closely with the other Quality Engineers, Process Engineers, management and employees to improve the product quality through standard practices process control and understanding customer requirements. Works with Technical Service Engineers to evaluate customer issues as related to mill practices. Provides technical assistance and quality support to the Quality and Operations management groups at NLMK Indiana.
Role and Responsibilities
Position requires solid metallurgical skills and abilities to provide technical advice and direction to the organization.
  • Follows all Safety policies and ensures that all safety issues are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that technical standards and work instructions to support product quality and NLMK Production system (NPS) requirements are implemented and followed. Strive to identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, cost, organization, or efficiency.
  • Report on a daily basis Day/WTD/MTD/YTD quality performance metrics.
  • Utilizes automated data collection/analysis systems, collects, and analyze data for product (and process) quality improvement; communicates necessary changes to process and practices. Develops and maintains strong working relationships with the production and maintenance workforce to assess and communicate product quality issues.
  • Assist in the investigation related to quality related issues.
  • Trains workforce on Quality Standards.
  • Must be trustworthy in all areas of profession and personal performance.
  • Review slab quality qualitative and quantitative data to determine application to Customer order requirements.
  • Evaluate customer quality issues related to the mill, gathers data, and analyzes any trials.
  • Interfaces with the Engineers to translate mill data to establish mill capability limits.
  • Evaluate product quality of material produced and disposition as prime, rework or reclass.
  • Observe product quality at outside processing units as necessary to evaluate product quality and disposition product
  • Perform other related work, as required.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Minimum requirement is a B.S. in metallurgical engineering, materials science, or similar engineering field of study.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years' experience working in a Quality Engineer function and possess solid foundation of technical knowledge, skills, and abilities.
