A quality control assistant works to ensure products meet company standards and industry safety guidelines. Specific job duties may vary, depending on the company and industry. As a quality control assistant, your responsibilities may include organizing audit paperwork for the quality control manager, calibrating equipment to make sure they are running properly, and inspecting products for flaws or defects. There are no formal education requirements to become a quality control assistant, though some employers prefer candidates with an associate degree and at least one year of industry experience.

Is QC a hard job?

Quality Control Assistant roles can be physically and mentally demanding, requiring attention to detail, consistency, and adherence to standards. The job often involves repetitive tasks, working in environments that may require safety precautions, and sometimes working in shifts, which can add to the difficulty.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Quality Control Assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Quality Control Assistant, you need strong attention to detail, basic understanding of quality assurance principles, and at least a high school diploma or equivalent. These skills are crucial for ensuring products consistently meet quality standards and for supporting efficient production processes.

Which pays more, QA or QC?

In the quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) fields, QA roles typically offer higher salaries because they involve broader responsibilities such as process improvement and system audits, often requiring certifications like Six Sigma. QC roles focus on inspecting products and ensuring standards are met, usually with slightly lower pay. Salary differences can vary based on industry, experience, and location.

You will perform QC activities — testing materials and products, documenting results, and ensuring our products meet internal specifications and customer expectations — in a chemical manufacturing environment.

  • Review and verify QC documentation (self-checks) to confirm completeness, accuracy, and consistency
  • Log materials, test results, and other QC information into the appropriate databases or tracking systems
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and properly maintained QC work area, including equipment, tools, and sample storage
  • Properly retain, label, store, and dispose of samples and materials in accordance with company procedures
  • Assist with inventory documentation and management of QC-related supplies
  • Support investigations into quality issues, deviations, or customer complaints by providing data, test results, and observations
  • Collaborate with production teams to communicate quality expectations and help resolve quality-related issues
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
  • Prior quality control experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or similar environment
  • Minimum 1–2 years of quality control experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Demonstrated ability to follow written procedures and accurately complete documentation
  • Strong attention to detail and a quality-minded approach to work
  • Ability to read and write in English
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to multi-task and perform at a high level in a fast-paced environment
  • Dependable, with a strong record of consistent attendance
  • Comfort working in a chemical manufacturing environment around powders and industrial materials
  • Experience working with cementitious powders or similar materials
  • Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment physical exam
  • Ability to pass a fit test and wear a respirator
Preferred
  • Prior manufacturing or production experience
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Experience with basic computer systems or databases
Note: Laboratory-specific experience is not required for this role — but solid, hands-on QC experience and a commitment to accuracy and documentation are essential.
WHY JOIN SPECCHEM?
  • $24–$26/hr starting pay, pay is commensurate with experience
  • Industry-leading compensation package and perks
  • Ability to make an impact and be rewarded for high performance
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision programs
  • 100% company-paid basic life insurance
  • Generous PTO program
  • 401(k) plan with company match
  • A "work hard, play hard" environment that gives back to its community
