Position Summary
The Quality Control Assistant supports the Quality Control Lead by performing routine inspections, documenting quality results, and assisting in maintaining consistent product quality throughout the yearbook and photobook manufacturing process. This role is hands-on and detail-oriented, focused on identifying defects, escalating quality concerns, and ensuring products meet established visual and mechanical standards prior to shipment.
The QC Assistant plays a critical role in defect prevention, waste reduction, and overall quality consistency while operating under the guidance and direction of the QC Lead.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Inspection & Support
  • Perform in-process and final inspections of photobook products according to established quality standards.
  • Inspect products for visual, mechanical, and finishing defects, including:
    • Color consistency and image clarity
    • Page order, alignment, and trimming accuracy
    • Binding strength and spine alignment
    • Cover lamination, finish, and cosmetic appearance
  • Identify, document, and escalate quality issues promptly to the QC Lead.
  • Separate non-conforming product in accordance with quality procedures.

Documentation & Reporting
  • Accurately complete inspection logs, defect reports, and quality checklists.
  • Record defects, reprints, and scrap in designated tracking systems or logs.
  • Assist the QC Lead with data collection for weekly quality metrics and reporting.
  • Maintain organized quality documentation for audits or internal review.

Production Floor Support
  • Support production teams by reinforcing quality expectations and standard work practices.
  • Assist with quality checks during start-ups, changeovers, and high-volume production runs.
  • Respond to quality-related questions from operators and refer escalated concerns to the QC Lead.
  • Follow direction provided by the QC Lead regarding inspection priorities and focus areas.

Continuous Improvement & Compliance
  • Participate in root cause investigations as assigned.
  • Support corrective and preventive action initiatives.
  • Adhere to all safety, quality, and operational procedures.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality when handling quality issues.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior experience in manufacturing, production, or quality inspection preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify visual inconsistencies.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Basic documentation and recordkeeping skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in photobook, commercial print, or digital print manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with finishing processes such as binding, trimming, or laminating.
  • Exposure to quality control procedures or inspection standards.
