Therapeutic Day Treatment (TDT) Counselor School-Based (Part-Time or Full-Time)
Tree of Life Family Services Loudoun County, VA

Tree of Life Family Services is looking for dependable and compassionate TDT Counselors to join our school-based mental health team in Loudoun County. This is a paid position that offers the opportunity to work directly with students, support families, and collaborate with school staff while helping children navigate emotional and behavioral challenges throughout the school day.
All new hires begin as part-time, with the possibility of moving into full-time as caseloads grow.
Position Overview
You will work inside Loudoun County Public Schools providing structured therapeutic support to students who have mental, emotional, or behavioral needs. Youll help them build coping skills, regulate emotions, stay engaged in the classroom, and feel supported at school and at home.
This role is hands-on, meaningful, and ideal for someone who enjoys helping children grow in a structured school environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide daily emotional support, behavioral coaching, and skill-building to students
Work closely with teachers, school social workers, and administrators to support student needs
Communicate with families and keep them involved in the treatment process
Assist students during moments of crisis and help them stabilize using positive strategies
Participate in school meetings, treatment planning, and team discussions
Maintain accurate documentation of daily services and progress
Attend required supervision, staff meetings, and professional development
Represent Tree of Life Family Services in a professional, positive, and collaborative way
Qualifications
Must be eligible or registered as a QMHP or QMHP trainee in Virginia
Comfortable working directly with children and supporting them emotionally and behaviorally
Comfortable working with teachers, school social workers, and families
Strong communication skills and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations
Able to build rapport while maintaining healthy boundaries
Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel to any Loudoun County Public School
Must be available to work during school hours: 8:00 a.m. 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
Ability to adjust to changing school needs and maintain organized documentation
Schedule
This is a school-based role. All services take place during the school day between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. This position follows the LCPS academic calendar, with summer hours varying depending on program needs.
