Job description

Salary: $23.00-$35.00

Job Summary:

The Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP-A, C, and T) is responsible for providing mental health services to individuals across various treatment settings. The QMHP will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the treatment of clients with mental health disorders. This role may involve working in different service areas such as crisis stabilization, mental health supportive services, and in-home therapy. The QMHP will be expected to engage in client assessments, provide therapy, document care, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

Direct Services & Therapy:

  • Provide individual, family, and group therapy to clients as per the treatment plan.
  • Offer crisis intervention services, addressing acute mental health concerns and de-escalating high-risk situations.
  • Provide mental health stabilization services for clients in crisis, offering immediate therapeutic interventions.
  • Support clients in developing coping strategies, skills for managing their mental health, and improving overall quality of life.

Collaboration & Case Management:

  • Collaborate with other mental health professionals such as case managers, social workers, and psychiatrists to provide comprehensive care.
  • Coordinate care and resources for clients, including referrals to specialized services such as substance abuse treatment, housing, and employment support.
  • Communicate with family members, caregivers, and community providers to ensure continuity of care and to discuss client progress and needs.
  • Engage in regular supervision and consult with supervisors to discuss complex cases and ensure high-quality care.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Document all clinical interactions, assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes accurately, timely, and in compliance with relevant policies and legal requirements.
  • Ensure all records meet state, federal, and organizational guidelines for confidentiality and ethical standards (including HIPAA regulations).
  • Maintain up-to-date client files for ongoing treatment planning and evaluations.

Crisis Management & Safety:

  • Use de-escalation techniques to manage clients in crisis and ensure their safety, as well as the safety of others in the environment.
  • Respond to suicide attempts, self-harm behaviors, and other urgent mental health crises with appropriate interventions and follow-up care.
  • Provide clients with resources and referrals for aftercare and continued treatment, if necessary.

Other Duties as Assigned:

  • Participate in team meetings, case discussions, and professional development opportunities.
  • Engage in community outreach as needed to promote services and establish collaborative relationships with community partners.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of new staff or students as requested.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • QMHP-A: A Masters or Bachelors degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field.
  • QMHP-C & T: A Bachelors degree in psychology, social work, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience providing mental health services in a clinical setting or crisis intervention role (preferred).

Certifications and Licenses:

  • CPR/First Aid certification required (or ability to obtain within 30 days).
  • MCR Training/ Crisis Intervention training required within 90 days of employment.
  • Licensure or eligibility to work under the states QMHP certification (required).

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage clients, families, and team members.
  • Ability to work independently, manage a caseload, and document services efficiently.
  • Familiarity with mental health treatment modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding mental health services and documentation (e.g., HIPAA, Medicaid standards).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel to and from client homes or community locations.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. when necessary, especially in managing physical crises or setting up therapeutic equipment.
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations and potentially engage in physical interventions if required.

Work Schedule & Compensation:

  • Schedule: Full-time or part-time options available with flexibility. Weekend and evening availability may be required.
  • Compensation: Competitive hourly rate, based on experience; benefits package available for full-time staff.
