Job Summary
The Post Graduate Therapist position provides one year of supervised clinical practice to further develop clinical skills in preparation for independent practice in a university mental health or related setting. The role requires intermediate-level therapy skills and prior clinical experience in a university counseling center, mental health agency, or similar environment. The Therapist will provide services to Purdue students through individual, couples, and group therapy, as well as on-call coverage, triage, and services related to substance use, abuse, and dependence. Additional responsibilities include providing outreach and consultation services. The position follows a "learning by doing" training model emphasizing applied clinical work and includes formal training such as individual and group supervision.
This is a limited-duration position for one year.

What We're Looking For
Education and Experience Required:

  • Master's degree in clinical, counseling, marriage and family therapy, social work, or closely related field from a regionally accredited program.
  • Must have obtained associate license for relevant professional fields (i.e., LMFTA, LMHCA, LSW) in state of Indiana by (August 1st), first date of employment.
  • Supervised internship or equivalent work in a university counseling center, mental health agency or related professional setting (prior direct counseling experience is required).
Qualified Candidates Will Need:
Skills Required:
  • Provision of group and individual therapy
  • Strong generalist therapy skills
  • Ability to evaluate and diagnose clients, make decisions about the urgency of clients' problems, and design and implement appropriate therapy treatment interventions foundational
  • Skills and interest in outreach and consultation
  • Confidentiality and adherence to ethical practices
  • Independent judgment and discretion
  • Must relate well to students, staff, faculty and other members of the University community
  • Specific interest in one or more of the following clinical areas and client groups: group therapy; substance use, abuse, and dependence concerns; eating disorders; international students; and/or working with underserved populations.
