Job description

As an HBG editorial intern atLittle, Brown Books for Young Readers, you will have the opportunity to work closely with seasoned editors and gain hands-on professional experience as you own day-to-day tasks, help with special projects, and attend departmental meetings.

To enhance your work experience, we offer educational sessions featuring speakers from all departments of the company as well as networking and career development opportunities.

Program dates: September 13, 2026 - December 11, 2026

Location: Hybrid (a total of four days, with 2-3 days per week on-site (M-Th) in our New York office with the remaining 1-2 days remote)

Company laptop will be provided for the duration of the program.

Weekly schedule: 28 hours per week, 9:00am-5:00pm, with a one-hour lunch break.

Pay rate: $17.00/hour

Who you are:

  • Self-starter with strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Enthusiastic and excited about discussing recent books you've read, with a particular interest in Young Adult and New Adult/romance novels
  • Possess a great attitude, a desire to learn, and excellent organizational and research skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team and contribute insights
  • Resourceful with the ability to balance multiple responsibilities and work independently
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint

What you will learn:

  • Research industry and market trends with goal of gaining a strong understanding of the children's, YA, and New Adult book markets and creating resource database and documents for the editorial team
  • Log, review, provide feedback, draft replies to, and/or discuss manuscript submissions
  • Draft feedback to help inform editorial letters
  • Attend a weekly editorial meeting to learn about and discuss the market, projects, opportunities, etc.
  • Potential to draft additional written materials such as copy and correspondence
  • General administrative duties as requested
