Public Accountant (Tax & Client Services)

Position Overview:
A well-established and growth-oriented CPA firm in Northern New Jersey is seeking an experienced Public Accountant to join its team. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with a diverse client base, including individuals, small businesses, and non-profit organizations. The ideal candidate is technically strong in tax preparation and accounting, highly detail-oriented, and capable of managing client relationships in a collaborative, client-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review federal and state tax returns for individuals, businesses, and non-profit organizations
  • Manage all aspects of client engagements, serving as a primary point of contact
  • Review client financial records, including QuickBooks files, for accuracy and completeness
  • Prepare and post journal entries and necessary adjustments
  • Develop tax projections for small business clients through analysis of financial statements (Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss)
  • Provide small business advisory and consulting services, including direct client interaction and guidance
  • Utilize tax and accounting software to ensure efficient and accurate reporting
  • Collaborate with team members while also working independently to meet deadlines

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3+ years of recent public accounting experience required
  • CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation, or active pursuit of certification, strongly preferred
  • Strong experience preparing business tax returns (required)
  • Proficiency with tax preparation software; UltraTax experience preferred
  • Solid working knowledge of QuickBooks (desktop and online versions)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial statement analysis
