Job description

Job Title: Mechanical Designer
Location: Rock Island, IL
Position Summary

We are seeking a Mechanical Designer to support the design and development of heavy industrial material handling and conveyor systems. This role focuses on creating detailed mechanical designs for robust, field-deployed equipment used in demanding environments such as quarries, paving operations, and bulk material processing facilities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using PTC Creo (Pro/E)
  • Design steel structural assemblies and welded fabrications for heavy industrial equipment

Create and modify designs for:

  • Conveyor systems
  • Material handling equipment
  • Heavy gauge sheet metal components
  • Gears, shafts, and mechanical drive assemblies
  • Prepare fabrication-ready drawings with accurate dimensions, tolerances, and BOMs
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, fabrication, and engineering teams to ensure design feasibility
  • Support design improvements, revisions, and production troubleshooting
  • Ensure compliance with internal design standards and industry best practices
  • Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback into final models

Required Qualifications

  • Strong experience using PTC Creo / ProENGINEER (mandatory)
  • Experience designing industrial mechanical systems, preferably conveyors or material handling equipment

Knowledge of:

  • Welded structures and steel fabrication
  • Heavy-duty mechanical assemblies
  • Sheet metal design principles
  • Ability to create detailed engineering drawings and BOMs
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced design environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in quarry, mining, construction equipment, or bulk material handling industries
