Job description

The Process Safety Management (PSM) Coordinator supports compliance with OSHA PSM (29 CFR §1910.119) and EPA Risk Management Plan (RMP) (40 CFR Part 68) requirements across company facilities. The role coordinates PSM/RMP activities, supports field operations, maintains Process Safety Information (PSI) and program documentation, participates in Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), and assists with Mechanical Integrity (MI), Management of Change (MOC), audits, and incident investigations. The position also supports continuous improvement of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), P&ID management systems, and other Process Safety Management programs.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Assists with adherence to all PSM and RMP regulations, objectives, policies, and procedures; use sound judgment to maintain compliance.
  • Assists with regulatory government agencies engagement, compliance activities, including inspections, audits, and required reporting.
  • Serves as backup administrator for the corporate electronic Management of Change (MOC) system and action tracking software.
  • Participates in emergency planning and preparedness, including drills, training programs, and incident investigations.
  • Collaborates with regulatory bodies, first responders, and third parties on safety compliance and enforcement matters, as needed.
  • Retrieves, compiles, and reports PSM/RMP key performance indicator data; ensures accuracy and relevance.
  • Promotes the PSM program for all regulated assets and ensures plant and management personnel understand their roles.
  • Establishes, develops, implements, and maintains PSM and RMP program elements in compliance with requirements.
  • Audits plant processes, procedures, and practices; manages and updates PSM program documentation.
  • Coordinates PHA to ensure analyses are completed before new covered process startups and at five-year revalidations for existing processes.
  • Supports Mechanical Integrity (MI) programs and collaborates with cross-functional teams to support CMMS and electronic P&ID management activities that enhance compliance and efficiency.
  • Maintains regular interaction with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering at assigned facilities to resolve process safety issues.
  • Conducts routine facility walkthroughs to assess units, observes work in progress, and identifies improvement opportunities.
  • Supports construction and startup activities by assisting with Process Safety Information (PSI) collection and review, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), and Management of Change (MOC) implementation.
  • Tracks and drives closure of action items from audits, internal reviews, incident investigations, and PHA recommendations using the electronic tracking system.
  • Researches and drafts operations and engineering PSM/RMP guidance documents.
  • Collaborates with HR on onboarding training for new employees and developing training materials.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with CMMS.
  • Technical knowledge of process safety principles and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent organization for managing compliance documentation and multiple priorities.
  • Clear written and verbal communication for training, reporting, and cross-functional work.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve process safety issues.
  • Ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Comfortable working in field environments and conducting facility walkthroughs; strong attention to detail.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial) or related field; equivalent directly related experience accepted.
  • 3+ years of direct PSM experience (e.g., PSM Engineer, PSM Coordinator, Process Facility Manager) with working knowledge and hands-on application of all PSM elements, including PSI, MOC, MI, PSSR, audits, and document control.
  • PHA participation; facilitation experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting construction and startups, including PSI compilation and conducting Pre-Startup Safety Reviews.

Certifications:
  • None required.
  • Preferred: CSP (Certified Safety Professional); PHA Leader; Mechanical Integrity certificate; completion of recognized process safety training.

Physical Demands and Hazard for Field Employees:
This position may require occasional travel to remote sites, potential exposure to flammable material, adherence to safety protocols, compliance with operating regulations, and will require rigorous physical demands.
