Job description

Teacher- Special Education Autistic Support (New Program)
Salary: $59,493-$81,690
Qualifications:


  1. Minimum bachelor's degree in special education or a related field; master's degree preferred.
  2. Hold valid and current Pennsylvania Special Education certification.
  3. Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder preferred.
  4. Knowledge of applied behavior analysis (ABA), functional communication, structured teaching, and data-based instructional practices preferred.
  5. Experience with, or willingness to be trained in, evidence-based autism instructional practices, including the STAR Program, discrete trial training (DTT), natural environment teaching (NET), pivotal response training (PRT), functional routines, functional communication training (FCT), and the use of visual supports.
  6. Knowledge of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems preferred.
  7. Clear criminal history and child abuse clearances required (Acts 34, 151, and FBI).
  8. Ability to perform essential job duties satisfactorily, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  9. Ability to perform additional duties or meet alternative qualifications as determined appropriate by the Board or Superintendent.


Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Through knowledge of special education, autism-specific instructional practices, and student-centered planning, the Special Education Autistic Support Teacher develops instructional plans designed to meet individualized student needs and promote measurable growth.

  2. Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of state standards, specially designed instruction, early childhood development, special education regulations, autism support, and evidence-based instructional practices.
  3. Reviews student records, evaluation reports, IEPs, behavior plans, communication needs, related service recommendations, and baseline data to guide instruction and supports.
  4. Develops individualized instructional plans aligned to IEP goals, communication needs, behavioral needs, and adaptive functioning.
  5. Prepares structured lessons and instructional rotations using ABA-based practices, including DTT, NET, PRT, FCT, and functional routines.
  6. Designs and implements assessments and data systems aligned to student learning, IEP goals, communication growth, behavioral supports, and adaptive skill development.
  7. Prepares instructional activities using evidence-based methods such as STAR Program lessons, DTT, NET, PRT, functional routines, task analysis, and systematic prompting and fading.
  8. Collaborates with colleagues, families, students, related service providers, paraprofessionals, behavior support personnel, and school community members to design effective instruction and supports.
