Job Summary:
The Engineer is responsible for maintaining and repairing the hotel's building systems and mechanical equipment, ensuring that all hotel facilities are operating efficiently and safely. This role involves daily inspections, troubleshooting, and resolving maintenance issues related to HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and general hotel infrastructure. The Engineer will work as part of the engineering team to perform preventive maintenance, respond to work orders, and ensure that all repairs meet hotel standards while minimizing guest disruptions.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintenance & Repairs:
    • Perform routine inspections of hotel facilities, including guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces, to identify maintenance needs and ensure proper operation of all equipment and systems.
    • Conduct repairs to HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical systems, lighting, and other mechanical equipment, following manufacturer guidelines and hotel standards.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues, ensuring that problems are addressed in a timely and efficient manner with minimal impact on guest satisfaction.
    • Perform basic carpentry, painting, and other general maintenance tasks as required to keep the hotel in top condition.
  • Preventive Maintenance:
    • Carry out preventive maintenance tasks, including cleaning and servicing air conditioning units, checking electrical systems, inspecting plumbing systems, and other routine checks.
    • Follow the established preventive maintenance schedule to reduce the likelihood of equipment failure and avoid unplanned downtime.
    • Maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections, ensuring that documentation is accurate and up to date.
  • Guest Room & Public Area Maintenance:
    • Respond to guest requests for maintenance or repair issues in guest rooms and common areas promptly and professionally, ensuring minimal disruption to the guest experience.
    • Assist in addressing urgent maintenance issues, such as power outages, plumbing problems, or equipment malfunctions, to restore functionality as quickly as possible.
    • Support the Housekeeping department with any maintenance-related needs in guest rooms, ensuring that rooms are prepared and maintained to the highest standards.
  • Equipment & Systems Monitoring:
    • Monitor the performance of hotel equipment and systems, including HVAC, lighting, and plumbing, to ensure they are operating efficiently.
    • Report any equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or necessary repairs to the Engineering Supervisor or Manager in a timely manner.
    • Perform routine checks and adjustments to systems, such as temperature settings in public spaces and guest rooms, ensuring comfort for guests and energy efficiency.
  • Health & Safety Compliance:
    • Ensure all maintenance tasks are carried out in accordance with hotel safety protocols and local health and safety regulations.
    • Participate in safety training and adhere to all safety guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries on the job.
    • Maintain safe work practices while handling tools, chemicals, and equipment, ensuring a safe environment for both staff and guests.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Work closely with the engineering team, Housekeeping, Front Office, and other departments to coordinate maintenance efforts and ensure smooth operations.
    • Communicate effectively with guests regarding any maintenance disruptions or scheduled repairs, offering solutions when necessary to maintain high levels of satisfaction.
    • Provide feedback to the Engineering Supervisor or Manager on any recurring maintenance issues or areas that require attention.

Education and/or Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or technical training in maintenance, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience in a maintenance or engineering role, preferably in the hospitality industry.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and basic building maintenance procedures.
  • Previous experience using maintenance management systems or work order systems is a plus.

Skills/Specialized Knowledge
  • Strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience with building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems independently, using both technical skills and practical knowledge.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple requests efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with guests, team members, and management.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and practices for handling tools, chemicals, and equipment.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the hotel property for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment or materials, up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional need to climb ladders, operate machinery, or work in confined spaces.
