Job description

OVERVIEW:

The Burch Oil Company is a regional leader in the distribution of petroleum products and propane. The Company markets its products through Burch Oil, Burch Oil of Charles County and Burch Propane. The Company sells and distributes these products to residential and commercial customers throughout southern Maryland and parts of Virginia.

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:

This position delivers propane products to residential and commercial accounts as directed by Supervisor. This position can be set up as full time, part time or seasonal as determined by Propane Manager.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Must report to work on time according to designated work schedule Ensures all DOT required items on current and on assigned vehicle Safely loads HazMat, propane product on assigned vehicle when required Completes a pre-trip vehicle inspection prior to operating vehicle Records the amount of gallons loaded on vehicle for each product Enters loading information into Cargas system

Ensures assigned vehicle is properly stocked to allow for proper, complete, and safe deliveries

Ensures each delivery is properly delivered to appropriate location/tank Checks customer's tank for beginning inventory level prior to delivery; Record starting inventory level on delivery ticket

After the delivery, records ending inventory level on delivery ticket Makes deliveries according to Cargas dispatch system

Observes all bulk plant regulations and safety procedures

Operates assigned vehicle in accordance with all Federal Motor Carrier Regulations at all times while obeying all State and Local motor vehicle regulations

Makes all deliveries in the order as dispatched by Cargas; no changes can be made without prior approval of Supervisor

Performs leak test on all fittings, lines, connections, etc. during the delivery process. Reports all line leak test failures to Supervisor immediately

Immediately reports all unsafe situations to Supervisor

When required, starts up customer's equipment and lights pilots

Completes random drug test within 2 hours after being notified and returns paperwork to company Safety Department upon completion

Collects payments from customers as required

Ensures delivery area is clean and secured after each delivery Submits completed Shift Summary to office at the end of each shift

Ensures assigned vehicle is kept clean, stocked, and road ready at all times Immediately reports any vehicle operational and safety issues to Supervisor Ensures that all fluid levels on assigned vehicle are properly maintained

Ensures all drivers' licensing, HazMat endorsements, etc. are kept current at all times Ensures all products are properly placard

Enters personal payroll hours/information into the ADP system in a timely manner Maintains personal appearance including wearing a clean approved Company uniform Completes all deliveries for the assigned shift unless approved by the Supervisor Performs other tasks as assigned by Supervisor

May be required to work overtime as required by Supervisor

May be required to work as an "On Call" driver when determined by Supervisor

REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Valid Maryland driver's license-CDL with HazMat/Tanker endorsement
  • Clean driving record
  • Ability to pass a background and drug test
  • Basic knowledge of computers
  • Able to work with Company software system
  • Able to use handheld devices like smartphones
