Project Manager Implementation Specialist information

What is a project manager implementation specialist?

A Project Manager Implementation Specialist is a professional who oversees the planning, execution, and completion of projects focused on implementing new systems, processes, or technologies within an organization. They coordinate between different teams, manage timelines and budgets, and ensure that project goals are met according to client or company specifications. Their responsibilities often include risk assessment, stakeholder communication, and providing training or support for successful adoption of new solutions. This role is vital for ensuring that implementations are delivered efficiently, on time, and within scope.

How does a project manager implementation specialist typically work with cross-functional teams during an implementation project?

A Project Manager Implementation Specialist regularly collaborates with cross-functional teams such as IT, operations, sales, and customer support to ensure seamless project delivery. Their role often involves facilitating communication between departments, clarifying project goals, and addressing any roadblocks that may arise during the implementation process. By coordinating team efforts and tracking progress, they help align different groups toward common objectives and timely project completion. This collaborative approach ensures that all stakeholders are informed and engaged throughout the project lifecycle.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a project manager implementation specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Project Manager Implementation Specialist, you need expertise in project management methodologies, process improvement, and implementation strategies, usually supported by a relevant degree and PMP or similar certification. Familiarity with project management tools like Microsoft Project, Asana, or Jira, as well as knowledge of CRM or ERP systems, is typically required. Strong organizational abilities, communication skills, and stakeholder management set top performers apart. These skills ensure projects are delivered efficiently, on time, and with stakeholder satisfaction in complex business environments.

What is the difference between Project Manager Implementation Specialist vs Business Analyst?

At GT Independence, people are at the heart of everything we do. If you thrive in a collaborative environment, love what you do, and are eager to grow, you’re in the right place. Discover a career where your work genuinely improves lives and supports a mission that matters.

Our Mission

The Project Manager leads strategic and operational projects that drive efficiency, support organizational growth, and deliver measurable outcomes. Reporting to the Director of the Enterprise Project Management Office, this role owns the full project lifecycle—applying PMI-aligned methodologies to plan, execute, monitor, and close cross-functional projects that span operations, technology, compliance, and new business implementation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead cross-functional projects from initiation through closure, following established EPMO protocols and PMI-aligned methodologies (waterfall, agile, hybrid).
  • Develop and maintain project charters, schedules, risk logs, CRAIDD logs, communication plans, and other required documentation.
  • Ensure project scope, timeline, budget, and quality remain aligned with strategic objectives and stakeholder expectations.
  • Facilitate project meetings, status reporting, risk/issue management, and decision tracking.

Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Coordinate with executive sponsors, subject-matter experts, operations, IT, finance, compliance, and external partners to ensure deliverables are completed on time and on budget.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations through proactive, transparent communication.
  • Serve as a trusted partner to Directors of Operations, Product Owners, and Implementation leads throughout the delivery lifecycle.

New Business Implementation

  • Support new state and contract launches by managing readiness activities, training coordination, vendor integration, and go-live execution.
  • Partner with the Implementation function to ensure smooth handoff of projects into operations.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify workflow bottlenecks and champion process improvements through change requests and standardized SOPs.
  • Contribute to the maturity of EPMO templates, tools, and playbooks (Monday.com, Smartsheet, Microsoft Planner/Project, SharePoint).
  • Escalate high-impact opportunities and risks through appropriate governance channels.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations, Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 5–8 years of progressive project management experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives.
  • Strong working knowledge of PMI's PMBOK-based methodology; PMP certification strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated capability across multiple delivery methods (waterfall, agile, hybrid).
  • Proficiency with project management platforms such as Monday.com, Smartsheet, Microsoft Planner, Microsoft Project, or Jira.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and executive-level communication skills.
  • Proven ability to influence without formal authority and work effectively across all levels of an organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a private equity–backed, high-growth, or transformation-oriented environment.
  • Experience in healthcare, Medicaid, HCBS/self-direction, financial management services, payroll, or a similarly regulated services industry.
  • Experience supporting RFP responses, new business implementations, or multi-state operational rollouts.
  • Lean Six Sigma or continuous improvement certification.

Success Measures in the First 12 Months

  • Consistent on-time, on-budget project delivery across an assigned portfolio.
  • High stakeholder satisfaction scores at project close.
  • Timely and complete project documentation, communications, and status reporting.
  • Meaningful contributions to EPMO standards, templates, and continuous improvement initiatives.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Position is hybrid; with office locations in Sturgis, MI, Southington, CT, Silver Spring, MD, High Point, NC, and Salem, OR, with remote candidates considered based on qualifications and travel flexibility. Occasional travel to state operations, sponsor meetings, and consulting partner sessions expected.
