Job description

The vision at Bridgetown is In Portland As It Is In Heaven. We live this out by Practicing the Way of Jesus Together in Portland. We organize our church around apprenticing with Jesus in community, gathering around a stage on Sundays and around the table throughout the week in smaller Bridgetown Communities. We believe that to be an apprentice of Jesus of Nazareth is to order our lives around three goals: be with Jesus, become like Jesus, and do what Jesus did. Our dream is that as we live this way, our lives, our communities, and our city will be transformed.


Role Summary:

Life together with others who follow Jesus is core to Christian discipleship; there is no solo apprenticeship. To this end, Bridgetown Communities-what Bridgetown calls its small groups-is the backbone of Bridgetown Church. We have more than 1700 people in more than 140 Communities, and they serve as the primary vehicle for formation and relationship. These Communities meet weekly for communion and a meal, and have monthly rhythms of serving our city and working through spiritual formation curriculum together.


The Communities team is looking for someone to implement administrative and logistical leadership across the department. The Communities Team Coordinator will partner with the Pastors of Community and the Pastor of Spiritual Formation in supporting Bridgetown Communities and their Leaders by managing various aspects of planning, communication, and logistics. They will also provide administrative support and project management for Bridgetown Communities events like Basics, New Leader Training, and Leaders Cohort.


As an integral member of the Communities team, this role requires strong project management and communication skills, high attention to detail, and the ability to anticipate needs and maintain clarity in a fast-paced environment. The Coordinator should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with expertise in organization and administration.


Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage communication and email correspondence
  • Submit event, promotion, and calendar request forms
  • Administer the Planning Center Online platform (PCO) with regards to Communities related data
  • Manage resources and supplies including catering, snacks, and printed materials
  • Manage registrations and check-ins for Communities related meetings and events
  • Coordinate childcare for various Communities events with the Bridgetown Kids Team
  • Manage the Communities general email inbox
  • Plan, organize, write, and send the Communities newsletter via email management platform
  • Manage the Communities department budget-including event purchases & receipt submissions
  • Oversee the integration of the Communities department calendar in conjunction with Bridgetown's ministry calendar-including communicating across teams and platforms
  • Keep the Communities roster up to date in Planning Center Online's Groups program
  • Assist the Communities Pastors in Community placements through Basics
  • Coordinate the onboarding pathway and process for new Community Leaders
  • Assist with posting and distribution of Community Guides
  • Organize pastoral needs requests via our care pathway to expedite the care process
  • Administratively support the Covenant Community (e.g. retreat planning, meal ordering, email communication, etc.)


Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • Living within character qualifications of 1 Timothy 3v1-13
  • Aligned with Bridgetown's theological beliefs as described at bridgetown.church/belief
  • Actively involved in a Bridgetown Community
  • Agree with the leadership structure of Bridgetown Church as described at bridgetown.church/about
  • Adhering to Bridgetown Staff Values: empowerment, communication, playfulness, team, spirit-led and orthodox, stewardship, integrity, and prayer
  • Commitment to Bridgetown staff Life Rhythms (Sabbath, Daily Prayer Rhythm, Personal Rule of Life)
  • Respond to all staff/volunteer concerns in a timely manner
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in a similar role
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Vision driven and action oriented - an inherent desire to achieve exceptional results
  • Self-starter who is well organized and proactive
  • Experience with project management
  • Enthusiasm and passion to serve Bridgetown, responding to the unique needs of each situation
