Project Governance Manager information

What is a project governance manager?

Project Governance Managers are professionals responsible for establishing, maintaining, and overseeing the frameworks, processes, and standards that guide project execution within an organization. Their main goal is to ensure that projects align with organizational objectives, comply with regulations, and achieve desired outcomes efficiently. They coordinate between stakeholders, monitor project risks, and implement best practices to support effective decision-making throughout a project's lifecycle. By doing so, they help organizations maximize the success and value of their projects.

How does a project governance manager typically collaborate with project teams and executive stakeholders?

A Project Governance Manager serves as a critical link between project teams and executive stakeholders by establishing clear decision-making frameworks and ensuring that projects align with organizational objectives. They regularly facilitate meetings, prepare status reports, and address escalated risks or issues to keep everyone informed and engaged. Collaboration involves guiding teams on compliance with governance policies, helping resolve conflicts, and ensuring transparency throughout the project lifecycle. This role requires strong communication skills and the ability to balance strategic oversight with practical project support.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a project governance manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Project Governance Manager, you need strong expertise in project management methodologies, risk assessment, compliance, and typically a degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with tools like MS Project, SharePoint, project portfolio management (PPM) software, and certifications such as PMP or PRINCE2 are highly valued. Exceptional analytical thinking, stakeholder management, and communication skills set top professionals apart in this role. These skills and qualifications are vital to ensure projects align with organizational goals, adhere to standards, and deliver consistent value.

Job description

Title: Data Governance Analyst

Location: Greenwood Village, CO | 4 days onsite, 1 remote

Contract Type: Long-term contract

Pay Rate: $58/hr

ROLE OVERVIEW

Our client is in the middle of one of the most significant chapters in its history. With a new merger now officially approved and integration underway, the Data Governance team is not standing still. They are actively redesigning how governance is done, shifting from a traditional approval model to a comprehensive, triage-based approach that connects privacy, policy, auditing, and data cataloging into a unified framework.

This contract opportunity puts you directly alongside the Data Governance Manager as her closest collaborator. You will lead technical initiatives, guide junior team members, support a four-pillar governance transformation, build Power Automate workflows, and present to SVP-level stakeholders. If you thrive when priorities shift quickly and want a role with real organizational visibility, this one delivers.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Partner closely with the Data Governance Manager on a team-wide governance transformation, shifting from an approval-based model to a triage-based, cross-functional governance approach that incorporates privacy, policy, and auditing
  • Manage and maintain the Alation data cataloging platform, including metadata validation, connector management, token upkeep, and user onboarding
  • Build and enhance workflows using Microsoft Power Automate, including approval flows and integrations connecting systems that do not natively communicate
  • Prepare and deliver executive-level presentations and project updates to SVP and senior leadership
  • Provide technical guidance and day-to-day support to junior contractors on the team
  • Participate in triage meetings with data requestors, ensuring requirements are captured and compliance standards are maintained
  • Collaborate with privacy and policy teams to ensure governance efforts meet organizational and regulatory standards
  • Track requests, surface trends, and generate metrics using Tableau dashboards
  • Engage with end users and cross-functional stakeholders to gather requirements and maintain strong working relationships
  • Adapt quickly as team priorities evolve through ongoing merger integration
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • 3 or more years of experience in data governance, data operations, or a closely related corporate technical role
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Power Automate, including building or maintaining automation workflows (this is a high priority)
  • Familiarity with data cataloging platforms such as Alation or a comparable tool
  • Experience presenting to and communicating with VP or SVP-level stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-changing environment
  • Strong process orientation paired with big-picture strategic thinking
  • Experience with AI tools (Copilot, similar agents) in a professional setting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a polished, professional presence
NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS
  • SQL (basic to intermediate)
  • Python or JSON experience
  • BI background (Tableau or similar)
  • Background in privacy or policy compliance
  • Experience with metadata management frameworks or governance standards
  • Experience navigating organizational change or merger integrations
