POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Project Engineer oversees new product designs or revisions to existing products produced by Peterson. The Project Engineer interacts and integrates technical activities on assigned projects with Purchasing, Production, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Engineering and other related departments and vendors. The engineer is to ensure that products are designed and produced to meet the product requirements with respect to cost, quality, and timing. This is an on-site position based at Peterson Manufacturing's corporate offices in Grandview, MO.
ORGANIZATIONAL SUPERVISION, REPORTING, AND INTERFACE
Position reports to the Engineering Manager, may direct the work of other engineering associates, and interfaces with other associates within the Peterson Manufacturing organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Analyzing product needs from drawings, specifications and detail information supplied.
  • Develop a project plan by reviewing project requirements, organizing, coordinating, and executing the plan.
  • Develop project/product cost and timing as required to meet the product requirements.
  • Prepares project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and recommending actions.
  • Directing the work of project personnel assigned to the engineer.
  • Problem solving using root cause analysis and suggest recommended actions.
  • Coordinate testing, either internally or through external test labs, as required by DOT, required as part of R&D, or requested by the customer.
  • Provide leadership to Design Engineers I & II as needed per project team requirements

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • Ability to act independently as well as working cohesively in a team setting, and with all company associates
  • Skilled in the application of Design Engineering principles to specific products/processes.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate ideas.
  • Self-motivated, and dependable.
  • An inquisitive attitude, good mechanical aptitude, and strong self- starter

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • B.S.M.E., or equivalent
  • Preferred 1-3 years of product development experience.
  • Design knowledge and experience working with injection molded plastics, metal stampings, and castings. Experience with lighting design and optics is a plus.
  • In-depth working knowledge of CAD, Solidworks preferred.
  • Knowledge of GD&T per ASMEY14.5
  • Proficient in the use of standard Microsoft products such as: Word, Excel. MS Project.

ENVIRONMENT
  • Duties are performed out of Peterson Manufacturing's offices and manufacturing facilities
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 50% of the time and be able to occasionally move about inside the office and manufacturing facilities
  • Must be able to communicate with others (internal and external) and must be able to exchange accurate information in all situations.
