Sr. Cost Control Specialist

Overview

An established commercial construction firm is seeking a Sr. Cost Control Specialist to join its growing Project Controls team. This senior-level role is responsible for overseeing project cost engineering, forecasting, reporting, budget management, and operational performance across multiple commercial construction projects. The ideal candidate will provide leadership-level financial insight that supports informed decision-making while helping build scalable project controls processes throughout the organization.

The Role

The Sr. Cost Control Specialist will lead project cost controls, forecasting, production tracking, labor planning, and financial reporting across multiple active projects. Success in this role means proactively identifying cost risks, improving forecasting accuracy, developing reporting tools and dashboards, and providing operational insights that help projects remain profitable and on track.

This position works closely with Project Managers, Estimators, Operations Leadership, Executive Leadership, and Project Controls teams to support successful project execution from preconstruction through project completion.

Responsibilities

  • Manage project cost controls across multiple commercial construction projects.
  • Develop and maintain project forecasts, cost reports, labor forecasts, and financial performance metrics.
  • Monitor project budgets, cost allocations, commitments, and change orders.
  • Analyze project performance to identify cost trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Coordinate closely with operations, estimating, and project management teams to support informed decision-making.
  • Evaluate schedule impacts and their effect on project costs and resource planning.
  • Develop and improve project controls processes, dashboards, reporting structures, and forecasting tools.
  • Track production performance and provide operational reporting to executive leadership.
  • Support business planning, budgeting, workflow improvements, and operational initiatives.
  • Assist in implementing best practices for project controls, forecasting, and financial reporting across the organization.

Requirements

  • Extensive project cost control experience within a commercial construction environment.
  • Primavera P6 experience required.
  • Unifier experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong background in cost engineering, forecasting, reporting, labor forecasting, and resource planning.
  • Experience managing project costs across multiple construction projects simultaneously.
  • Extensive knowledge of budget management, cost tracking, change order management, and cost allocation.
  • Ability to analyze schedule impacts and coordinate with operations and project teams.
  • Experience developing project controls processes, dashboards, reporting tools, and forecasting systems.
  • Strong analytical, financial, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience partnering with executive leadership, operations teams, project managers, and estimators.
  • Proficiency with construction technology platforms and reporting software.

Nice to Have

  • Experience implementing or improving enterprise project controls systems.

Salary

$90,000 – $130,000 DOE
