Job description

What we are looking for
SCS Engineers is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Project Controls Cost Analyst subject matter expert to join our dynamic team within the environmental engineering and renewable natural gas sector. This role is pivotal in developing a robust project controls functional group within our Engineer/Procure/Construct (EPC) company. The successful candidate will be responsible for tracking field quantities, costs, and manhours, ensuring that all project metrics are accurately monitored and reported. This position will be based out of our Long Beach office and you have abliity to work in a hybrid capacity.
How you can make an impact
  • Assist in Developing and implement project controls processes and systems to support the EPC project lifecycle.
  • Track and analyze field quantities, costs, and manhours to ensure alignment with project budgets.
  • Collaborate closely with project team to gather and analyze data.
  • Monitor and report on critical Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and other project metrics to evaluate progress, productivity, and performance.
  • Compare actual costs, quantities, and manhours against baseline values to identify variances and recommend corrective actions.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring that all project controls activities are executed efficiently and effectively.
  • Report on productivity and cost-tracking metrics for engineering and construction firms and internal project management teams.
  • Extract cost information from reporting systems and analyze data to report on the status of the project.
  • Identify the root cause of variances and define future spending in justifiable terms.
  • Finalize and record total project costs.
  • Develop Work Breakdown and Project Coding Structures for control and integrity of work defined by the contract.
  • Develop integrated engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) cost control programs.
  • Recommend solutions or recovery plans to address cost impacts or delays.
  • Develop and analyze the Project Margin Analysis Report (PMAR).
  • Coordinate estimate development with the Project Estimator.
  • Provide regular communication on project cost, and risk status to project team members and stakeholders.
  • Maintain scope change, contingency release, change order, and journal entry logs.
  • Document Change Order requests, project status, key issues, risks and resolution, priority changes, and approvals.
  • Provide Project Manager with weekly reports of project costs and/or schedule information, including variance analysis.
  • Apply statistics and probability for bidding, planning, estimating.
  • Implement the Earned Value Management System (EVMS) for cost control and analyze project productivity & performance.
  • Cost & financial engineering
  • Analyze financial results on a weekly basis, providing explanations of significant cost drivers.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Accounting or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of proven experience in project controls, cost control, or a related role within the engineering/construction industry required.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools (e.g., MS Products, Excel, Procore).
  • Experience in developing and implementing project controls costs systems and processes is preferred.
  • Experience working with Vantagepoint, Deltek Vision, Vantage Point is a plus.
  • Certification in project management or cost control (e.g., PMP, CCP) is a plus.

Pay Range
USD $100,000.00 - USD $140,000.00 /Yr.
