Job description

Assistant Project ManagerReporting to the Construction Manager, the Assistant Project Manager leads, directs, and coordinates the daily management of the assigned project(s). This leadership position is accountable for the overall performance of the project, including costs, schedule, quality, project status, and adherence to company policies and procedures.
This position will be located out of our Mississauga, ON office, with travel to sites as needed.
This position may require OPP or Reliability clearanceWhat You Will Be Working On

Pre-Construction

  • Support the Project Manager in preparing and maintaining Preconstruction in Progress (PIP) documentation, KPIs, and monthly reporting
  • Assist with project setup, including establishing document control systems and processes
  • Contribute to preconstruction planning activities such as look-ahead schedules, HSE planning, procurement, construction logistics, and Project Execution Plans
  • Support the preparation and submission of tender packages, including subcontractor recommendations and cost coding for awards
  • Assist in securing permits and approvals from local authorities
  • Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to identify and implement efficient, cost-effective project delivery solutions

Construction

  • Assist with pricing and processing change orders and tracking Requests for Information (RFIs)
  • Coordinate and review shop drawings and ensure timely approvals
  • Support communication and coordination with sub-trades and suppliers
  • Assist in maintaining and updating the project budget, schedule, and cost reports
  • Support weekly master schedule updates and ensure alignment with Superintendent look-ahead schedules
  • Assist with setting up client billing schedules and executing invoicing
  • Support subcontract administration, including tracking notice periods and contract value changes
  • Assist with payment processes, dispute resolution, and subcontractor performance evaluations
  • Maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Support compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards in line with legislation and company policies

Post-Construction

  • Assist with resolving deficiencies and managing warranty-related items
  • Support the Project Manager in ensuring full contractual and financial project closeout
  • Assist with project closeout activities, including final reports, purchase order reconciliation, and resolution of outstanding costs
What We Are Looking For
  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering or Construction Management
  • Eligible for, or in possession of, a P. Eng., EIT, CET, or PQS designation
  • 5-8 years of hands-on experience in construction management, including cost estimating and direct project management of large-scale commercial, high-rise, civil, or institutional projects
  • Demonstrated experience within institutional and commercial construction environments
  • Strong leadership, project management, and problem-solving skills, with a collaborative approach to delivering results and supporting team development
  • Proven competency in safety, workforce management, project execution, cost control, quality, and project administration
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedules
  • Experience with Viewpoint Project Management software is considered an asset
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing demands in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, with close attention to detail
