Job description

Position Overview
Are you ready to launch your career in the construction industry with Helm? The Helm Group is seeking an energetic, proactive, and detail-oriented Project Assistant to join our team. As a Helm Project Assistant, you will provide support in the planning, execution, monitoring, and control of projects. This person should be familiar with general construction practices, be very organized, hand have some experience with excel, accounting, and project management.
This position is for our mechanical division which is responsible for the HVAC, Plumbing, and Piping scopes of work for new construction projects as well as remodel work in buildings such as K-12 schools, hospitals and associated healthcare buildings, high-rise buildings, and other commercial building types. This role is located in our Westmont, IL office.
Key Responsibilities
  • Organize and manage project documents, including drawings, submittals, contracts, etc.
  • Prepare various forms and reports as directed by Project Managers (Subcontracts, Purchase Orders, Change Orders, Submittals, RFI)
  • Monitor construction management contract compliance (COI, bonds, permits, Safety)
  • Order & Track Equipment, Review Invoices
  • Assist in Compliance Monitoring of Subcontractors
  • Act as liaison with GC, project manager, field, vendors, subcontractors, and accounting
  • Knowledge of construction industry
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Critical thinker with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Positive, professional, polite
  • Solid communication skills, written and verbal
  • Effectively understands and sets priorities
  • Dependable and driven self-starter with strong self-responsibility

Requirements
  • High School Diploma required
  • College Degree preferred, but not necessary.
  • 3 years of experience (required)/5 years' experience (preferred) as a Project Assistant or Project Coordinator

Salary & Benefits
Range: $55,000-$70,000
