Job Title: Project Architect

Location: Rochester, NY
Job Type: Full-time | Onsite

About the Company

A well-established, multi-disciplinary Architecture and Engineering design firm with over four decades of experience delivering impactful public and private sector projects across infrastructure, civic, transportation, educational, and commercial developments. The firm’s strength lies in providing integrated architectural and engineering solutions that balance functionality, innovation, and community impact.

The team operates across multiple offices in New York State, combining design excellence with technical precision — shaping spaces that stand the test of time.

Role Overview

We’re seeking an experienced Project Architect to take ownership of project development from concept to completion.
This role involves leading the architectural design, coordination, and documentation for a variety of multi-discipline projects — including civic facilities, educational institutions, public infrastructure, and transportation-related buildings.

You’ll collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, consultants, and clients to ensure that every phase of design meets both creative and regulatory expectations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead assigned architectural or multi-discipline projects and coordinate with internal and external design teams, consultants, and clients.

  • Develop and oversee complete project documentation, ensuring compliance with state and local building codes and client standards.

  • Review architectural drawings and documents for design accuracy and code completeness before submission.

  • Mentor and guide junior design staff, fostering professional growth and accountability.

  • Conduct design coordination meetings, document discussions, and ensure follow-ups are actioned promptly.

  • Perform construction administration tasks — reviewing submittals, responding to RFIs, conducting site visits, and preparing field reports.

  • Evaluate change orders, support value engineering, and ensure contractor performance aligns with approved design intent.

  • Collaborate with the Project Manager on staffing needs and scheduling, ensuring timely delivery of project milestones.

Required Skills & Tools
  • Strong technical competence in architecture and multidisciplinary coordination.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite, and NYS Energy Code Software.

  • Deep understanding of building codes, construction documentation, and permitting processes.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage internal and external stakeholders effectively.

  • Leadership and mentoring capabilities to guide junior architects and design staff.

Experience & Education
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture (NAAB Accredited preferred).

  • 6+ years of experience in architectural design and project documentation.

  • Professional Licensure in the State of New York (or eligibility for reciprocity within a reasonable timeframe).

What’s in It for You
  • Opportunity to lead high-impact projects that shape public and private spaces across New York.

  • Collaborative environment with a strong emphasis on mentorship, design quality, and technical growth.

  • Competitive compensation package based on experience and expertise.
