What is a project accounting assistant?

Project Accounting Assistants are professionals who support the financial management of specific projects within an organization. One Position – Level Based on Qualifications and Experience

The City of Calistoga is seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented accounting professional to join our Administrative Services team. We are recruiting for one position, which may be filled as either an Accounting Assistant or a Senior Accounting Assistant, depending on the successful candidate's experience, qualifications, and demonstrated abilities.

What You'll Do

Regardless of level, you'll play an important role in supporting the City's financial operations and providing outstanding customer service. Duties may include:

  • Cash receipting and daily deposits
  • Utility billing and business licensing
  • Financial recordkeeping and reconciliations
  • Assisting customers at the public counter and by phone
  • Preparing reports and maintaining accurate financial records
  • Supporting special projects and other accounting functions

Which Position is Right for You?

Accounting Assistant

Perfect for candidates beginning or growing their accounting career.

This position performs a variety of administrative and accounting support duties under supervision, including customer service, cashiering, processing payments and deposits, assisting with grant administration, supporting City departments, and maintaining financial records. As experience is gained, employees take on increasingly complex assignments.

Typical Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) year of accounting, bookkeeping, or financial recordkeeping experience

Senior Accounting Assistant

Designed for experienced accounting professionals who can work independently and handle more technical accounting responsibilities.

In addition to performing advanced accounting support work, the Senior Accounting Assistant independently manages complex accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, utility billing, business licensing, reconciliations, year-end support, and payroll assistance. This position may also provide technical guidance and training to less experienced staff.
Typical Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible accounting or financial recordkeeping experience
  • College coursework in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is:

  • Customer-service focused
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Comfortable working with numbers and financial records
  • Able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy
  • A collaborative team member with excellent communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and computerized financial systems
  • Bilingual English/Spanish highly preferred
