KBR is seeking a mid-level Software Engineer to develop, integrate, and evaluate positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) software solutions in for various systems in various operating environments. This role supports modeling, simulation, and testing operationally relevant systems across research and applied DoD programs.
This position requires a strong foundation in software engineering, an understanding of PNT fundamentals, and the ability to work across system, algorithm, and integration boundaries. The engineer will work closely with systems engineers and, at times under the direction of systems engineers and hardware teams to implement, analyze, evaluate, and report on PNT capabilities in laboratory and field environments.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain software supporting various systems, simulations, and performance analysis environments
  • Develop and implement algorithms grounded in first principles physics, including measurement modeling, error characterization, and estimator behavior under non ideal conditions
  • Implement and integrate algorithms within software frameworks
  • Integrate software with hardware- and software-in-the-loop (HITL & SITL) and digital twin environments
  • Develop interfaces between software components and external systems
  • Support test planning, execution, and analysis for PNT-focused experiments, demonstrations, and evaluations
  • Collaborate with systems engineers to align system requirements with software designs and implementations
  • Document software designs, interfaces, and test results to support technical reviews and deliverables

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • 3-7 years of professional experience developing software for technical systems
  • Proficiency in C#/C++ or Python
  • Experience developing software on Linux-based systems
  • Familiarity with PNT concepts (e.g., Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSSs), inertial navigation, timing, sensor fusion)
  • Experience integrating software with complex systems or external hardware components
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD security clearance
  • Participate in team technical interchange meetings to describe technical activities, progress, issues, improvements, and more

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with GPS/GNSS signal processing, navigation algorithms, or timing systems
  • Experience supporting or developing alternative or resilient PNT approaches
  • Experience with modeling, simulation, or digital twin environments
  • Familiarity with real-time or embedded systems
  • Experience with HITL/SITL test architectures or laboratory integration Experience supporting DoD programs, laboratory R&D, or operational prototyping efforts

Basic Compensation:
$100,000 - $150,000 (For Ohio Only)
