Teck’s Trail Operations, located in the community of Trail in British Columbia, is one of the world’s largest fully integrated zinc and lead smelting and refining complexes. Role Overview

Teck is looking for an experienced Reliability Engineer to join our team at our Trail Operations, one of the world’s largest fully integrated zinc and lead smelting and refining complexes. Reporting to the Superintendent, Reliability Engineering and Asset Health, the successful candidate should be eager to create a reliability culture on our critical assets at Trail Operations.

This role is based in the welcoming community of Trail, situated in the beautiful West Kootenay region of southeastern British Columbia. Here you will find outdoor adventure at your fingertips! Key Responsibilities
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Initiates a Reliability Incident Report (RIR), Root Cause Analysis (RCA) as required. Supports in plant personnel and front line leaders with 5 Why Root Cause Analysis
  • In conjunction with plant management, identifies equipment problems (“bad actors”) that are having a negative impact on our site CORE objectives based on direct referrals, incident reports, production incidents or maintenance cost reviews
  • Advises plant on maintenance strategies, by applying Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) principles
  • Uses a combination of preventative maintenance (PM), predictive maintenance (PdM) and Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) for development of maintenance strategies
  • Continuously improves scope and content of maintenance strategy documentation, information, and PMs based on IOM and investigations.
  • Manages backlog of PM update requests, and delegates minor PM revisions (providing direction as needed)
  • Provides verbal and written reports to keep management and work teams informed of the progress of assignments. Tracks status of assignments using 3W list and reviews the list periodically with plant management and Reliability Superintendent.  Provides highlights of assignments and plant activities to Reliability colleagues at periodic roundtable discussions
  • Provide quality assurance of maintenance strategies built as part of operational readiness packages for capital projects
  • Conduct hazard risk assessments (HRAs) or process hazards assessments (PHAs) as part of the Management of Change (MOC) Process
  • Provide guidance to new employees, co-op students, EITs, and plant personnel
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with a specialization in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • 4+ years of work experience in mining, smelting, refining, or similar heavy industrial facilities
  • Applicants need to be eligible for registration or registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. (“EGBC”) as this will be a condition of employment. Teck will support eligible employees with their EGBC registration
  • CMRP designation is an asset but not required
  • Knowledge of reliability principles, methodologies, and technology
  • Familiarity with RCM and risk-based decision making
  • Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office (Advanced Excel)
  • Strong knowledge of CMM systems
  • Knowledge and experience with predictive maintenance technologies is an asset.
