Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a Registered Nurse to serve as an RN House Supervisor supporting both the College Station and Brenham hospital campuses.
The RN House Supervisor serves as the clinical leader and operational authority during designated shifts, providing hospital-wide oversight to ensure safe, high-quality patient care. This role is responsible for coordinating staffing, patient placement, hospital throughput, clinical resources, and immediate operational needs across both facilities.
As the primary leadership resource during off-hours, the House Supervisor works closely with charge nurses, physicians, department leaders, and interdisciplinary teams to address staffing challenges, patient flow concerns, clinical emergencies, and other operational needs.
This dual-campus leadership role provides an opportunity to work across a variety of clinical environments and requires an RN who is adaptable, collaborative, confident in decision-making, and comfortable leading in a fast-paced environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesStaffing & Resource Allocation
- Assess and coordinate nursing staffing levels across both College Station and Brenham based on patient census, acuity, and operational needs.
- Collaborate with charge nurses to address call-outs, staffing changes, and unexpected resource needs.
- Reallocate available staff and resources to support patient safety and appropriate workload distribution.
- Coordinate the use of float and agency staff when needed.
- Monitor staffing concerns and communicate significant issues to appropriate leadership.
Patient Flow & Bed Management
- Oversee patient placement, admissions, transfers, and discharges to support efficient hospital operations.
- Collaborate with the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, surgical services, and other departments to facilitate timely patient movement.
- Monitor hospital capacity and identify barriers to patient throughput.
- Work with interdisciplinary teams to resolve delays and improve patient flow.
- Coordinate transfers between departments and facilities as appropriate.
Clinical Leadership
- Serve as the on-site clinical leader and nursing resource during designated shifts.
- Provide guidance and support to nursing staff when complex patient care situations arise.
- Use strong clinical judgment and critical-thinking skills to prioritize patient and operational needs.
- Monitor clinical activities to promote compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care.
- Support a culture of safety for patients, families, and healthcare team members.
Emergency & Safety Response
- Serve as an immediate responder and coordinator for clinical emergencies, security events, and disaster situations.
- Coordinate appropriate resources and communication during emergency situations.
- Ensure significant clinical and operational events are communicated to hospital leadership.
- Support emergency preparedness and organizational safety initiatives.
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with physicians, nursing leaders, charge nurses, ancillary departments, and other interdisciplinary team members.
- Maintain effective communication across both hospital campuses.
- Build strong working relationships with staff, patients, families, and providers.
- Provide appropriate updates regarding critical patients, staffing concerns, and unexpected events.
- Serve as a liaison between hospital leadership and clinical teams during designated shifts.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Texas or compact state equivalency.
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical bedside nursing experience in an acute care hospital setting.
- Current BLS certification.
- Current ACLS certification.
- Strong clinical judgment and critical-thinking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to assess complex patient situations and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced hospital environment and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Previous experience in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and/or Emergency Department (ED).
- Previous experience as a Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager, House Supervisor, or other nursing leadership role.
- Experience with staffing coordination, patient placement, bed management, or patient throughput.
- Experience working across multiple clinical departments or hospital campuses.
- Experience in both acute care and critical access hospital environments.
