Job description

A part of the Envelop Group family of companies, Validated Custom Solutions (VCS) provides customized HVAC solutions through strategic partnerships with leading manufacturers. We provide a full range of HVAC services including the assistance of design, installation, and maintenance. Our team of skilled engineers tailor solutions to each customer's unique system specification, budget, and goals.
The Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading Support Engineers who provide a variety of crucial support functions for the sales team. These functions include sales support from the time of inquiry to delivery, which requires validating the equipment selection, pricing, submittals, and providing technical product knowledge. The Engineering Manager will also manage the workload for the team and support all VCS companies as requested.
What you'll do:
Team Leadership (60%)
  • Responsible for training and developing Support Engineers, providing technical advice, and offering guidance.
  • Manage the implementation of policies, practices, and standards to ensure effective and consistent department operation.
  • Monitor metrics, implement actions to improve performance, and identify opportunities for growth.
  • Adopt and support tools, platforms, initiatives, and programs focused on enhancing efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Participate in the selection process for new Support Engineers.
  • Manage the annual goal setting and performance reviews.

Support Engineering (40%)
  • Collaborate with sales engineers to understand customer requirements, assess HVAC equipment needs, and determine system requirements.
  • Provide high level application-based technical product training for our offices. This will be used to optimize our current training programs.
  • Assist the sales engineers in the design of HVAC systems and integrate VCS product offerings/selections into the project design.
  • Assist sales engineers in developing a scope of work, preparing proposals and pricing.
  • Validating equipment selections, producing final equipment submittals, and order processing of the mechanical equipment with our manufacturers.
  • Review manufacturer acknowledgements for accuracy and correct orders as required.
  • Continuous learning of HVAC systems and new technologies provided from our manufacturers and the HVAC industry.
  • Maintain accurate records including manufacturer product updates and improvements.
  • Manager and facilitate the turnover from sales to our operations team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required skills, knowledge, and experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent training and experience in a similar field.
  • 8+ years of HVAC support engineering experience.
  • 1+ year of experience coaching and mentoring engineers.
  • Deep technical knowledge of HVAC systems and the manufacturers that serve the market.
  • Mastery in the concepts of HVAC controls in new construction, renovation/retrofit project types, and components.
  • Demonstrated ability to comprehend, discuss, apply, and mentor peers in new concepts in the HVAC industry.
  • Education and experience within the construction and engineering industry, with specific experience dealing with construction drawings, specifications, construction schedules and processes is a plus.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Must be highly organized and possess the ability to work in a high paced environment with the ability to prioritize tasks to meet the schedules.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently and autonomously and take ownership of all tasks.

Physical Demands:
  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
  • Travel to customer job sites may be required, which could include outdoor work and/or work in mechanical/equipment rooms. During site visits, the employee may be exposed to variable weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, heights, and other variable environmental conditions.
  • Must be able to maintain a professional appearance.
  • May be required to satisfy requirements imposed by specific projects, customers, or company.
  • Must be able to use hand tools, laptop, email, smartphone, and tablet.
