Position Summary
****This is an onsite position located in the St. Louis, Missouri area. Candidates should apply only if they are able to be physically present and available to work onsite by the start date****
STLCC is seeking a full-time faculty member for the Nursing division. This position will serve as Assistant Chair & FT Faculty member for the Medical Assistant Certificate Program at the South County Center location.
Provides classroom and/or clinical instruction with areas including (but not limited to): Clinical Instruction, Skills Practicum, Simulation, Medical-Surgical, Mental Health, and/or Pediatric topics for the Medical Assistant Certificate Program.
Primary Duties Performed
Full-time Faculty duties and responsibilities normally include:
โ€ข Providing formal course contact teaching hours each Fall and Spring semesters.
โ€ข Engaging students in a variety of learning environments, developing interactive course content, and utilizing learning technologies effectively
โ€ข Preparing and planning for instruction of assigned classes in accordance with course objectives
โ€ข Preparing, assessing, and correcting examinations and other student work assignments and providing assessment and feedback to students
โ€ข Scheduling student conferences to review individual student progress
โ€ข Assisting in student academic advisement
โ€ข Participating in departmental selection of course texts, instructional equipment, library books, classroom supplies and materials, and non-print resource materials
โ€ข Participating in departmental development, evaluation, and revision of course objectives and outlines, instructional strategies, and systems of evaluation and assessment of student learning
โ€ข Attending faculty and institutional meetings
โ€ข Participating in departmental, divisional, campus, and college-wide service
Other responsibilities or assignments of full-time instructional faculty may include:
โ€ข Assisting part-time faculty
โ€ข Assisting with student recruitment
โ€ข Assisting with student job, internship, or workplace learning placement
โ€ข Supporting the Curriculum and Assessment and Registrar Departments with articulation and transfer review, course equivalency review, or other course-specific information
โ€ข Sponsoring student activities, groups, or clubs
โ€ข Attending institutional ceremonies or events
โ€ข Participating in community activities
โ€ข Participating in professional development activities
The Assistant Chair is a faculty member released to serve in an administrative capacity, generally on continuing status, who assists the Department Chair in executing all assigned duties. Responsibilities and duties of the Assistant Chair will vary by department. In the performance of assigned duties, the Assistant Chair supports enhancement of academic excellence, a functional department, and overall student success. An Assistant Chair position may be established at the recommendation of the Division Dean or other administrator.
Assistant Chair / Program Coordinator responsibilities may include the following:
  • Providing leadership to ensure currency and relevance of the program.
  • Assisting the Department Chair, Division Dean, or other administrators with orientation and in-service training for full-time and part-time faculty, staff, and student workers.
  • Assisting the Department Chair, Division Dean, or other administrators with staffing needs through consultation with appropriate faculty in the area by screening applications and interviewing candidates for part-time and full-time faculty positions and making recommendations.
  • Organizing, coordinating, and completing a systematic evaluation and review of program curricula in collaboration with District colleagues and formulating recommendations concerning curriculum.
  • Reviewing and recommending catalog revisions.
  • Cooperating in the development of instructional and informational materials for the subject matter area of responsibility.
  • Participating in articulation efforts for the area with two- and four-year institutions and with high school districts.
  • Reviewing part-time faculty performance within area of responsibility and preparing evaluation reports for submission to the faculty member and the Department Chair, Division Dean, or other administrators.
  • Facilitating communication between the Department Chair, Division Dean, or other administrators and the program faculty.
  • Organizing twice a year Advisory Board meetings to improve the program and submitting appropriate documentation to the Board of Trustees concerning Advisory Board composition.
  • Recruiting students for the program/curriculum.
  • Securing external funding through proposal writing when appropriate.
  • Acting as a liaison and communication link between faculty, designated employees in other areas of the College, and community agencies for purposes of program development.
  • Assuring all accreditation requirements are met and maintaining communication as necessary with the accrediting agency.

Qualifications/Experience
Current undisciplined Missouri RN license and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN),
and two (2) years of full-time college teaching experience, and one (1) year of related full-time work experience;
or
Bachelor's Degree with major in Nursing and four (4) years of full-time related work experience.
PREFERRED:
Previous community college teaching experience
Demonstrated commitment to fostering a welcoming and supportive learning environment
Current undisciplined Missouri RN license and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
