About the MLS Laboratory Assistant Role:

Under the direction of the Program Manager, Medical Laboratory Sciences, the Lab Assistant Medical Laboratory Sciences performs duties associated with the operation of the MLS Laboratories Specific duties include:

  • Prepare and provide the appropriate materials for MLA and MLT laboratories including solutions, reagents, simulated patient specimens, equipment, supplies and any other materials associated with executing the laboratories for this program.

  • Assist in monitoring laboratory safety and performing machine/equipment maintenance,

  • Ensure all laboratory spaces are kept neat and clean,

  • Responsible for the set up and breakdown of daily laboratories

  • With the collaboration, guidance and support of the Lab Facilitator, support student learning for MLA labs and MLT labs and ensure a safe, and engaging interaction for all learners within the laboratory space

Education

  • College certificate or advanced diploma required, bachelor's degree preferred

 Experience and Skills

  • 3 years' experience working as an MLA, MLA/T or MLT

  • Certification through CSMLS or MLPAO

  • Experience working in multiple disciplines with the medical laboratory preferred

  • Experience working in an educational facility considered an asset
