Job description

The University of Saint Mary is conveniently located a short 30 minutes' drive from Parkville, Shawnee, Basehor and Kansas City, Kansas. THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF SAINT MARY:

The University of Saint Mary is a Roman Catholic, liberal arts university located in Leavenworth, Kansas, just 25 minutes away from Kansas City. For over 100 years, the University of Saint Mary has helped students find their way to meaningful lives and careers through an education that blends the liberal arts and a focus on critical thinking with the development of key professional skills. USM serves about 1,400 students at its main campus in Leavenworth, its satellite location in Overland Park, as well as online.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Serve as assistant coach to the Women's Volleyball program during Fall, Winter and Spring seasons, while participating in the Graduate Assistantship program at USM.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist in maintaining USM's adherence to conference and league policies
  • Responsible for all aspects related to assisting the head coach with conducting practices and games, working on player development, and supervising all conditioning programs
  • Assisting in the recruitment of possible student-athletes and assisting in the coordination of on-campus visits
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continued learning/professional development via presentations, workshops, and/or conferences
  • Oversee team managers
  • Assist with driving vans for travel games as well as travel preparations
  • Responsible for daily academic progress of current volleyball student-athletes
  • Additional assignments include working with Sports information for inputting rosters, NAIA Champions of Character program building; fundraising; community service; maintain and promote public relations; film exchange; game day operations; scouting of opponents
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Must meet eligibility for USM Graduate Assistantship program which includes acceptance into one of the USM graduate programs
  • College level playing experience required
  • Effective and positive interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be insurable
  • Must successfully pass a required background screening
  • Affinity with the overall mission of the University of Saint Mary

Graduate Assistant Coaches receive a comprehensive benefits package, including 50% tuition remission, a meal plan (5 meals per week), and a stipend of $480 per semi-monthly pay period. Benefits are contingent upon acceptance into the graduate program and adherence to all terms outlined in the Graduate Assistantship Agreement.
