CPN Legal is seeking an experienced accountant/bookkeeper with prior professional service experience to take ownership of maintaining accurate financial records for a block of law firm clients.


CPN Legal offers comprehensive accounting and bookkeeping services to law firms across the country, on a daily, monthly, or as-needed basis. We work with each client to tailor an engagement that meets their unique needs.

Primary duties & responsibilities:

  • Reconcile bank accounts and other balance sheet accounts such as payroll liabilities and clearing accounts
  • Record expenses and deposits in QuickBooks Online on a daily or weekly basis
  • Record monthly journal entries including payroll, revenue allocations, etc.
  • Reconcile asset and liability accounts
  • Produce monthly financial reports, including balance sheet and income statement
  • Prepare weekly cash flow reports, leveraging data to discuss cash flow with clients
  • Trust account recordkeeping and reconciliation
  • Understand accounting and operational issues experienced by clients
  • Works accurately and efficiently with minimal supervision, meeting client expectations and deadlines
  • Working knowledge of preparing payroll setup, submission, review, and journal entries
  • Paying vendor bills for clients and record in proper systems
  • Process payroll and record payroll journal entries
  • Manage 401K contributions


Skills & Background:

  • Prior staff or senior accounting experience using QuickBooks Online
  • Professional skills to handle all types of client engagement efficiently and timely
  • High level of project management skills to ensure deadlines are met on multiple client engagements
  • Strong problem-solving skills and knowing when to ask questions
  • Ability to approach client work with ownership and accountability, as if running your own company
  • Experience with or ability to understand flow of data between integrated software systems
  • Basic understanding of financial accounting concepts; previous experience at a CPA or professional service firm preferred, including active or inactive CPA
  • Proficient to advance skills in Microsoft Excel and keyboarding


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline preferred.
  • Three to five years accounting experience
