Common Search & ComparisonOften searched by those starting in service fields or seeking entry-level rolesCompared for experienced roles requiring technical skills

The main difference between a Service Apprentice and a Service Technician is experience and certification level. Service Apprentices are typically in training, gaining skills on the job, while Service Technicians are experienced professionals with specialized certifications. Apprenticeship programs prepare individuals for technician roles, which require more technical knowledge and independent work.

Why do most apprentices quit?

Most apprentices quit due to challenges such as demanding work environments, slow skill development, or lack of support and mentorship. These factors can lead to frustration and a decision to leave before completing the program or gaining full proficiency.

Is 27 too old for an apprenticeship?

Service apprenticeships are open to individuals of various ages, and 27 is not considered too old to start. Many programs value maturity and life experience, and age typically does not disqualify applicants from entering an apprenticeship in the service industry. Success depends more on skills, motivation, and willingness to learn than on age.

What is the $5000 apprenticeship incentive?

The $5000 apprenticeship incentive is a financial reward offered to Service Apprentices who complete their training program, often provided by employers or government programs to encourage skill development. It may be paid in installments or upon certification and aims to support apprentices financially during their training period. Eligibility criteria and application processes vary by program.

What is the highest paying apprentice job?

Service apprentices in skilled trades such as electrical, plumbing, or HVAC often earn higher wages, especially in industries with high demand or requiring specialized certifications. Some apprentices in these fields can earn over $50,000 annually once they gain experience and complete their training programs.

At Wilson, we believe comfort starts with care-and that begins with our team. We're looking for an HVAC Service Apprentice who's ready to learn from the best, grow in the trade, and help keep families safe, efficient, and comfortable all year long.

As an Apprentice, you'll work alongside experienced service technicians, learning how to diagnose, repair, and maintain residential HVAC systems. You'll gain the hands-on skills and confidence to build a lasting career-backed by a company Northeast Ohio has trusted since 1958.

What You'll Do

  • Support tune-ups and preventive maintenance visits
  • Help identify issues and communicate findings clearly to homeowners
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area-truck, tools, and customer home alike
  • Follow all safety procedures and company standards

What You'll Get

  • Top market pay with opportunities to grow as your skills increase
  • Full benefits package, including:
  • Health, dental, vision, and life insurance (we cover 70% of family premiums)
  • 401(k) with 3% company match
  • Two weeks PTO after 90 days plus 7 paid holidays
  • $1,500 annual education credit for training, certifications, or tools
  • Ongoing training and mentorship to help you advance from apprentice to service technician
  • A supportive team and leadership that invests in your growth

Requirements

What We're Looking For

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license with a clean record
  • EPA certification or willingness to obtain within 90 days
  • Some HVAC training or hands-on experience (school, internship, or entry-level role)
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and eagerness to learn
  • Professional, customer-focused attitude
  • Physically able to lift 50-75 lbs and work in various environments

Why WilsonWe're a third-generation family business built on doing right by our customers-and our team. Our core values guide how we work every day:

  • Accountability: We do what we say we'll do
