Note: All staff are hired by Milford School District rather than a specific building. While this opening is currently at the building listed above, final placement is subject to change based on district staffing needs.

Overview of the Position: The Science Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality, standards-based instruction that promotes student achievement and fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and scientific inquiry. The teacher implements district curriculum with fidelity, collaborates with colleagues to ensure a cohesive educational program, and uses data-driven instructional practices to support the academic growth of all students. As a member of a collaborative school team, the Science Teacher works closely with department members, cross-curricular colleagues, support staff, and administrators to advance school and district goals. The successful candidate demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement, professional learning, positive relationships, and adherence to district expectations, policies, and instructional initiatives while creating a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment for all students. 

Qualifications: 

• All applicants must possess or be eligible to possess a Delaware teaching certification as a Middle Level Science Teacher as defined by 14 Del.C.  1533 or Secondary Science Teacher as defined by 14 Del.C. 1543. 

Performance Responsibilities:

• Plan, deliver, and assess rigorous, standards-aligned science instruction that reflects district curriculum, state standards, and best instructional practices.
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of curriculum development, implementation, and alignment to ensure high levels of student learning and achievement.
• Collaborate with science department members and cross-curricular teams to develop, refine, and implement instructional programs that support student success.
• Actively contribute as a positive, productive member of the school community by fostering teamwork, collaboration, and shared responsibility for student outcomes.
• Follow district, school, and departmental directives, procedures, initiatives, and expectations with professionalism and fidelity.
• Participate in curriculum review, data analysis, common assessment development, and instructional planning to support continuous improvement efforts.
• Utilize student performance data to inform instruction, monitor progress, and implement interventions and enrichment opportunities.
• Employ a variety of instructional strategies, technology tools, laboratory experiences, and differentiated practices to meet the diverse needs of learners.
• Create and maintain a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment that promotes scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and academic excellence.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, achievement, assessments, and other required documentation.
• Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and administrators regarding academic progress and student needs.
• Work collaboratively with special education staff, multilingual learner specialists, counselors, and other support personnel to ensure equitable access to learning opportunities.
• Support school improvement goals and actively participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), faculty meetings, department meetings, and professional development activities.
• Assist with the selection, evaluation, and effective use of instructional materials, technology resources, and laboratory equipment.
• Uphold all district policies, administrative regulations, and safety procedures, including those related to science laboratory instruction.
• Engage in ongoing professional learning to strengthen content knowledge, instructional practices, and curriculum implementation.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or district administration.

Terms of Employment:  Ten-month (10) full-time employee.

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated annually according to the Board's policy on professional personnel evaluation.
