Instruct Students in the Auto Collision Repair Technology Program
Provide instruction to a diverse student population in the Auto Collision Repair Technology Program using a variety of instructional methods and procedures.
Provide Instruction in Basic Metal Repair to Major Collision Repair
Provide instruction which will teach students to perform operations correctly and safely regarding use of hand tools, MIG welding, basic metal repair, major collision repair, frame repair, body alignment, standard/unibody repair, body sectioning procedures, primer and basic painting, refrigerant recovery and basic automotive electricity/ electronics. Develop New Courses and
Update Existing Courses
Develop new courses and update existing courses as required to keep the Auto Collision Repair Technology Program current with industry standards and processes. New course development includes writing course objectives, developing syllabi, developing handouts and tests and researching text books for course use. Also the updating of existing courses to ensure that the course is current with industry standards is required.
Maintain and Upgrade Auto Collision Repair Technology Classroom/Laboratory Instructional Facilities and Equipment
Responsible for maintenance of all instructional facilities and equipment and to ensure that it is maintained in a safe and proper working order for student use.
Complete and Maintain Program and Students Records
Responsible for maintaining permanent student records on courses taught and following and enforcing college policies regarding attendance policy, grading policy and student achievement. Assist with the completion of purchase orders when ordering program instructional supplies and equipment. Complete production orders on all production projects and maintaining inventory records of all program equipment for the assigned laboratory areas.
Maintain Technical Competency in Teaching Area
Required to stay technically competent in all areas of teaching responsibilities by attending seminars, professional association meetings, conferences, educational workshops and self-study.
Participate in College and Program Activities and Committees
Will attend, participate and support all program activities (i.e. advisory committee meetings, open house, division meetings, etc.) and college activities and committees as requested.
Act as Student and Technical Advisor for the Auto Collision Repair Technology
Will advise Auto Collision Repair Technology Program students on academic standing, support and explain college policies and procedures with students and complete all records, forms, etc. as necessary for proper articulation and program operation.
Perform Other College and Program Duties as Assigned
Perform other college and program related duties as assigned. This will include, but is not limited to, substitute teaching as required, develop budgets, advise Division Dean/Program Chair as requested, support and promote the College and the Auto Collision Repair Technology Program, support student recruitment, assist in the security of all college and program materials and equipment and assist in supervising student help.
Safely Operate an Automobile
Maintain license and ability to operate an automobile for road testing vehicle following repair work for evaluation of work and trouble diagnosis.
Individualized Development Plan (New Instructors) Each new instructor will develop an individualized development plan in cooperation with the Vice President of Instruction. Professional Development Faculty should work with their immediate supervisor to develop an annual plan of professional development and improvement.
The instructor may have additional duties and responsibilities of supervising and coordinating the activities of the program and its faculty if assigned to be Program Chair or Program Lead. The primary role of the Program Chair/Lead is to ensure that through personal and faculty efforts, students are able to achieve the objectives of the program. The Program Chair/Lead reports to the Dean or Associate Dean of the Division.

Marginal Functions1. Serve as a technical advisor from the Auto Collision Repair Technology Program for assisting other programs at the College.
2. Provide assistance to other college divisions/programs/ departments as requested to ensure college policies and procedures are followed.
3. Teach evening or off campus Auto Collision Repair Technology classes for specific training requests.
4. Perform other related duties within division/program as assigned.
5. May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.
6. Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
7. Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required.
1. Possess current work experience in the Auto Collision Repair Technology field, this should include a minimum of two years current work experience (within the past 4 years) in basic metals and collision repair (related to the instructional assignment) and a working knowledge of the other courses in the Auto Collision Repair Technology field.
2. Technical knowledge of and ability to explain a) correct auto body metal and collision repair procedures, b) safe and correct way to use auto body metal and collision repair tools/equipment, c) safe and correct way to use welding equipment, d) safe and correct frame repair procedures, e) safe and correct body alignment procedures, f) types of damage, g) correct trouble shooting/diagnosis procedures for evaluating collision damage and h) basic priming and painting.
4. Demonstrate effective oral and written communication competencies necessary to conduct classroom and laboratory instruction in working with a diverse student population.
5. Maintain a classroom/laboratory environment that is conducive to learning including the ability to maintain proper classroom order.
6. Develop laboratory experiences that as closely as possible simulate real business and industry processes. Evaluate the student ability to perform the laboratory assignments objectively based on industry standards.
7. Knowledge and ability to apply the use of various types of teaching media and techniques.
8. Organize and present course material in a logical and timely manner using effective communication skills.
9. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with students and college staff in all types of working relationships.
10. Stand and walk for extended periods of time (one to three hours) when supervising laboratory work and during class times (one to three hours).
11. Lift from floor to five feet high equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
12. Possess a working knowledge of the Hazard Communication Standard/ Hazard and Chemical Right-to-Know laws and regulations.
13. Ability to work on knees and on a creeper while working under the dash or under the car that is supported by jack stands while supervising laboratory work (several times each day).
14. Ability to correctly and safely operate an automobile on public streets and roads.
15. Possess telephone communication skills by answering customer questions, ordering parts for production projects.
16. Demonstrate excellent communication skills while visiting with students, their parents and prospective students and their parents to answer questions about curriculum and opportunities.
17. The individual must possess the skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
- Associate degree in Auto Collision Repair Technology.
- Two (2) years of current work experience (within the past 4 years) in Auto Collision Repair basic metal and collision repair.
- ICAR Certification in areas of instruction or complete certification in teaching areas within two (2) years of the date hired.
