How much do production tech jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 27, 2026, the average hourly pay for production tech in the United States is $19.23, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $16.59 and $20.67 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Production Tech, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Production Tech, you need a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment operation, and safety protocols, often supported by a high school diploma or technical certification. Familiarity with machinery, computer-controlled systems, and production software like ERP or MES is typically required. Attention to detail, teamwork, and problem-solving skills help Production Techs excel in fast-paced environments. These abilities are crucial for maintaining quality, minimizing downtime, and ensuring efficient production workflows.

What do production techs do?

Production technicians operate and maintain manufacturing equipment, monitor production processes, and ensure quality standards are met. They often troubleshoot machinery, follow safety protocols, and may use tools like PLCs or diagnostic software to keep production running efficiently.

What is the difference between Production Tech vs Manufacturing Associate?

AspectProduction TechManufacturing Associate
Required CredentialsHigh school diploma, technical certificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent
Work EnvironmentFactories, production lines, equipment operationAssembly lines, packaging, general manufacturing tasks
Industry UsageManufacturing, industrial plantsManufacturing, production facilities

Production Techs and Manufacturing Associates often share similar credentials and work environments, focusing on factory operations. However, Production Techs typically handle more technical tasks, equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting, while Manufacturing Associates focus on assembly and basic production tasks. Both roles are essential in manufacturing settings, but Production Techs usually require additional technical skills and certifications.

What jobs in the US pay 300,000 a year?

For a Production Tech, reaching a $300,000 annual salary typically requires extensive experience, advanced technical skills, and often supervisory or specialized roles in industries like manufacturing, energy, or pharmaceuticals. High-paying positions may involve management, process optimization, or working in high-demand environments with overtime or shift work. Such salaries are less common and usually require significant expertise and responsibility.

What are Production Techs?

Production Techs, short for Production Technicians, are professionals who support manufacturing and production processes in factories and industrial settings. Their duties typically include operating machinery, monitoring equipment, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring products meet quality standards. They play a critical role in keeping production lines running efficiently and safely. Production Techs may also be involved in troubleshooting equipment issues and following strict safety protocols. The specific responsibilities can vary depending on the industry and company.

What jobs pay $2000 a day?

Production technicians typically do not earn $2000 a day; such high daily rates are more common in specialized roles like senior engineers, project managers, or consultants in industries such as oil and gas, aerospace, or high-level manufacturing. These roles often require extensive experience, certifications, and working in high-pressure environments. Most production technician positions offer hourly wages or salaries significantly below this level.

What are some typical challenges faced by Production Techs, and how can they be effectively managed?

Production Techs often encounter challenges such as troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, maintaining consistent product quality, and adapting to rapidly changing production schedules. Effective communication with maintenance and engineering teams is crucial for quick problem resolution. Staying organized and following standard operating procedures can greatly reduce errors and downtime. Continuous learning and adaptability are important, as technologies and processes in manufacturing environments frequently evolve.

What jobs make $10,000 a month without a degree?

Production technicians can earn $10,000 or more per month with experience, specialized skills, and certifications in manufacturing or industrial settings. High-paying roles often require technical knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and familiarity with equipment, but they do not always require a college degree. Salaries vary based on industry, location, and level of expertise.
