Job description

The Production Technician performs all related services necessary for preparing exhibition galleries at the Cleveland Museum. Painting, lighting, building and preparing display cases, making mounts and other support materials for the display of artwork at the Cleveland Museum of Art.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in all project areas of the Gallery Production division and the Design and Experience department as needed.
  • Assist the Cabinet Maker in the production of exhibition cases, pedestals, picture frames, moldings, and all other support materials needed for the installation of galleries and special exhibitions at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Should have a working knowledge of reading and understand architectural drawings and design specifications.
  • Assist Museum Painter in display case finishing and any painting projects.
  • Assist Museum Lighting Technician with any tasks relating to the lighting of museum galleries.
  • Assist in the installation of labels, signage, vinyl, and other forms of exhibition and wayfinding graphics.
  • Assist in fabric coverings of decks/backboards/blocks/wedges and other case display items for permanent collection and special exhibition using a variety of conservation materials and fabrics.
  • Assist other areas in the Design & Experience department when requested by the Head of Gallery Production or the Director of Design and Experience.

Requirements

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED); strong understanding of craft and construction techniques; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Employee must possess a valid driver's license. Employee should have the ability to read scaled, detail drawings or layouts and to work well under pressure to meet deadlines. Overtime will be required at times.

    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Must be able to safely handle fragile, cumbersome, and valuable objects.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.

    A flexible mindset and professional demeanor are critical to this role as the employee interacts with all levels of museum staff and the public. The employee must be a team-oriented individual who works well in a collaborative environment.

    Hourly rate: $21.48 / 40 hour work week
