Who we're looking for
Toyota's Production Engineering (PE) department is looking for a passionate and highly-motivated Production Engineer.
The primary responsibility of this role is to support project planning and implementation for new model as well as capital projects for assembly, paint, and weld shop improvements.
Reporting to the manager, the person in this role will support the PE department's objective to provide new model equipment and processes to the manufacturing facilities which meet all targets for Safety, Quality, Productivity, Cost. Production Engineering covers a broad range of commodities from Material Handling Systems, Process Equipment, Conveyors, Vehicle Performance & Quality Confirmation Equipment.
What you'll be doing
  • Early Project Planning and Impact Analysis
    • Layout analysis emphasizing focus on new model impacts
    • Layout analysis targeting part count and placement effects for plant optimization
    • Overall shop layout optimization (Standard Assembly Order, Process counts, Flexibility, Technology)
    • Equipment impact studies covering PE responsible equipment for production shops
  • Assessing the impact of model changes on logistics areas, process equipment, and conveyor systems to establish technical change requirements
    • Conducting impact assessments of models and change points within designated focus areas
  • Leading equipment projects from concept to launch for new model projects, capital projects, refurbishments projects as well as plant competitiveness projects
    • Early planning studies focusing on technology feasibility as well as ROI
    • Create and manage a project schedule, budget, and quality confirmation plan
    • Taking total ownership of significant project workload. Leading a project, while balancing and adjusting resources based on events
    • Lead projects through process design, machine specification, equipment procurement and installation, safety risk assessments, part quality investigations and process trials.
    • Take ownership of produced part quality for assigned area
    • Create equipment modification concepts and drawings. Creating concept equipment images and driving through implementation
  • Close collaboration and relationship building with internal and external groups across Toyota including Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) Production Engineering Project Leaders, North America Manufacturing Company (NAMC's) Pilot team, Logistics, Maintenance, Production Engineering Planning Department, and others
  • Development of new technologies related to improving competitiveness within the production shops
    • Implementation of Quality Control vision systems for vehicle quality confirmations

What you bring
  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering/Engineering Tech or Associates in Engineering Tech w/ 3+ years relevant work experience
  • Production Engineering or an engineering role focusing on equipment development/procurement
  • Willing to work weekends, holiday periods, and shutdowns to support tooling modifications and installations
  • Willing to work in a team environment
  • Self-starting individual with ability to stay task focused and meet or exceed set KPI's related to project requirements
  • Project experience in new model development related to capital equipment
  • Proficient in AutoCAD
  • Proficient in Inventor and/or Catia
  • MS Office proficient
  • Travel up to 20% to all NAMC's as well as Japan

Added bonus if you have
  • Master's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Advanced Degree
  • Experience in 1 or more new model launch preparations
  • 2+ years Construction Management experience
  • Experience in Simultaneous Engineering or vehicle design for new model launches
  • Project management experience
