Product Development Engineer - Slurry Pumps

Introduction
At FLS, the Product Development Engineer - Slurry Pumps plays a key role in the design, development, and continuous improvement of pump products and related systems. This position is responsible for creating and maintaining designs, assemblies, and engineering documentation while supporting new product development and sustaining engineering activities across the pump portfolio. Working closely with Product Management, Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Sales, and Service teams, this role helps deliver reliable, cost-effective, and competitive pump solutions that meet customer and business requirements.
Your Responsibilities
Product Design & Development
  • Design and develop pump components, assemblies, and related equipment using CATIA
  • Create, review, and maintain 3D models, engineering drawings, and product documentation
  • Support new product development projects from concept through production release
  • Develop design solutions that improve performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost competitiveness
  • Perform engineering calculations, design analyses, and tolerance evaluations to support product development
  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical recommendations for product improvements
  • Support engineering change management activities, including revisions, deviations, and obsolescence management

Engineering Documentation & Drawing Control
  • Prepare, review, and approve detailed engineering drawings and bills of materials
  • Ensure drawings and documentation comply with company standards, industry standards, and quality requirements
  • Verify dimensional accuracy and manufacturability of designs
  • Support document control processes and maintain accurate engineering records

Technical Support & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Provide engineering support to internal stakeholders, including Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Service, Applications Engineering, Sales, and Product Management
  • Assist in resolving product, manufacturing, and field performance issues through root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to evaluate materials, manufacturing methods, and component improvements
  • Support prototype builds, testing activities, and validation efforts
  • Participate in product launch, qualification, and continuous improvement initiatives

Product Performance & Continuous Improvement
  • Evaluate existing designs and identify opportunities for standardization, optimization, and cost reduction
  • Support reliability and performance improvement initiatives through analysis of field and test data
  • Contribute to value engineering and design-for-manufacturing efforts
  • Support product lifecycle management activities and continuous improvement programs

What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline with 5+ years of relevant engineering experience OR Mechanical Design degree, Mechanical Engineering Technology degree, or related design discipline with 7+ years of relevant product design experience
  • Experience designing industrial equipment, preferably centrifugal pumps or related rotating equipment
  • Proficiency with CATIA for 3D modeling, assembly design, and engineering drawing development
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, and tolerancing practices
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of materials
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations and technical evaluations supporting product development
  • Experience providing engineering support to internal stakeholders
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to travel occasionally as required
