Job description

The Applications & Product Development Supervisor is responsible for the management of the Product Engineering Services, including design, engineering documentation, electronic and conventional files. Responsible for assuring drawings and bill-of-material information are accurate and suitable for use by various production departments. The incumbent must be thoroughly familiar with company products, components, and manufacturing processes. This individual will manage estimating, design, analysis, and testing functions for new applications. Responsibility also includes new product development, research, and development, as well as improvement to existing products. Manages and safeguards key company technical intellectual property.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Responsible for the preparation of documentation to support engineering change requests and maintenance of these documents.
Maintains a close interface between sales, manufacturing, and quality assurance to maximize growth and minimize customer returns.
Is responsible for the preparation of all customer design drawings in support of the company's sales and marketing activities. Also responsible for the preparation of manufacturing process drawings and bill-of-material as necessary for the manufacture of the division's product lines.
Issues product design requirements to designers assigned to specific projects and assures that detail drawings are accurate, and in conformance to requirements and technical specifications.
Provides technical marketing information such as generating PowerPoint presentations for the sales force and assists in technical marketing by making presentations to customers or during onsite visits.
Implements test programs and is responsible for test plans and test reports on new and existing products to assure compliance to customer or industry specifications.
Participates in the determination of design criteria to establish commercial standards for the company's products.
Responsible for New Product Development and Research and Development efforts. Stays apprised of advances in materials and gear technology to suggest items for implementation to improve current products and processes.
Supervises and coordinates the activities of the Engineering Department.
Attendance at work is an essential function of the job.
Other related duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor's degree in a technical discipline and a minimum of 7 to 10 years of exempt level experience in a similar role or any combination of experience, education and training which would provide the level of knowledge, skill and ability required.
Knowledgeable of engineering drawings, geometric tolerance, mechanical design, stress analysis, familiarity with test methods, and the properties of a variety metals.
Testing procedures
Strong systems knowledge
Computer skills including Microsoft Office
Computer Aided Design (CAD) Software
Familiarity with bill-of-material structure creation
Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Presentation skills to speak in front of groups.
Leadership skills to effectively manage the department staff.
