Job description

At LAPP, a family-owned leader in cable and connectivity since 1959, 5,800 colleagues across 80+ countries blend inventiveness with hands-on pragmatism. Here, you’ll find room to grow, flexibility to own your work, and a culture that values diverse ideas in a family-friendly environment.

A day in this role

You start with a quick walk on the floor, checking process dashboards and yesterday’s yield and cycle-time data. A bottleneck shows up in extrusion changeovers, so you sketch a new setup sequence and validate it with production and maintenance. Midday, you lead a short stand-up with Quality, Supply Chain, and Maintenance to align on a corrective action plan. After lunch, you review a vendor proposal for semi-automated testing, confirm validation protocols, and update SOPs and work instructions. You close the day by training shift leads on the new procedure and posting revisions to work orders—then log tomorrow’s kaizen priorities.

What you’ll take on
  • Design and refine manufacturing processes and systems that elevate throughput, quality, and safety.
  • Analyze current-state workflows, pinpoint constraints, and implement improvements that reduce cycle time and variability.
  • Partner with Production, Quality Control, Maintenance, and Supply Chain to integrate changes seamlessly across the value stream.
  • Run audits and data deep-dives; publish reports that highlight performance, bottlenecks, and corrective actions.
  • Apply Six Sigma, Lean, SPC, process mapping, and other statistical techniques to optimize resources and process variables.
  • Author and sustain process documentation: SOPs, work instructions, and process flow diagrams.
  • Identify automation opportunities and introduce technology that minimizes manual steps.
  • Collaborate with equipment vendors to select, install, and validate new machinery and digital solutions.
  • Monitor parameters, conduct risk assessments, and implement controls to meet regulatory and safety standards.
  • Train production teams on new methods, equipment, and procedures to ensure smooth adoption and adherence.
  • Stay current on industry advances to bring fresh process-engineering techniques to LAPP.
  • Engage in LAPP Operating Systems, Lean, Continuous Improvement, and related methodologies to elevate the entire value stream.
  • Own communication and updates to work orders as processes evolve.
  • Serve as a key contributor to Lapp Americas’ environmental compliance and customer documentation; develop Environmental Aspects and Impacts per ISO 14001:2015.
Core competencies
  • Facility with structured problem-solving (TQM, SPC, root cause).
  • Project planning and execution skills.
  • Clear communication, strong work ethic, and a can-do mindset.
  • Ability to set expectations, delegate, and follow through.
  • Creative, analytical, and quality-focused.
  • Strict adherence to OSHA and all site safety policies.
  • Team-first approach; motivates and supports others.
  • Reliable, respectful, and values-driven.
  • Excellent prioritization and time management.
  • Ownership mentality and focus on productivity gains.
  • Adaptable in a changing environment and a positive change champion.
Qualifications
  • BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (accredited institution).
  • 3+ years in manufacturing; wire, cable, or wiring products preferred.
  • Demonstrated success as a process engineer in production settings.
  • Hands-on with Lean, Six Sigma, statistical analysis, and process-improvement toolkits.
  • Working knowledge of relevant regulatory and safety standards.
  • Strong analytical judgment and problem-solving; confident decision-maker.
  • Effective collaborator and communicator across functions.
  • Self-directed with the ability to juggle multiple projects.
Knowledge & skills Language

Capable of interpreting safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedures; write clear reports and correspondence; speak effectively to groups of employees or customers.

Mathematics

Comfortable with arithmetic across units, fractions, decimals, percentages, and plotting data/graphs.

Reasoning

Solves practical problems involving diverse variables with limited standardization; interprets written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled instructions.

Technology

Experience with Lotus Notes, SAP, a CAD package, and strong Excel/Word proficiency.

Compensation & benefits

Base salary: $80,000 - $85,000, determined by experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, plus participation in LAPP’s bonus plan. Benefits include Medical, Vision, Dental, Paid Time Off, Paid Holidays, 401(k), HSA/FSA, Life Insurance, and more.

Preferred proficiencies
  • Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering
  • Lean Manufacturing Principles
  • Six Sigma Experience
  • ISO 9001 Certification Experience
