Process Engineer Electrical information

What is a process engineer electrical?

A Process Engineer Electrical is a professional who specializes in designing, optimizing, and overseeing electrical systems and processes within manufacturing or industrial environments. They focus on improving efficiency, quality, and safety in processes that involve electrical equipment or controls. Their work often includes developing process documentation, troubleshooting electrical issues, and collaborating with other engineering disciplines to ensure smooth operations. Process Engineer Electricals play a vital role in industries such as electronics manufacturing, power generation, and automation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a process engineer electrical?

To thrive as a Process Engineer Electrical, you need a solid background in electrical engineering principles, process optimization, and a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with CAD software, PLC programming, and standards like IEC or IEEE, as well as certifications such as a Professional Engineer (PE) license, are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and address complex technical challenges. These skills are crucial for ensuring efficient, safe, and reliable operation of electrical processes within industrial environments.

How does a process engineer electrical typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project?

As a Process Engineer Electrical, you'll frequently work alongside multidisciplinary teams that may include mechanical engineers, project managers, production staff, and safety specialists. Your role often involves translating process requirements into electrical system designs, coordinating with other engineering disciplines to ensure compatibility, and participating in review meetings to address technical challenges. Strong communication skills are essential, as you'll need to explain complex electrical concepts to non-specialists and gather input to optimize solutions. This collaborative approach not only streamlines project delivery but also provides valuable learning opportunities and exposure to different aspects of engineering.

What is the difference between Process Engineer Electrical vs Process Engineer Mechanical?

Job description

Memphis, TN

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

DATA CENTER SAFETY ENGINEER (ELECTRICAL)

The Environmental Health and Safety team is seeking highly driven engineers to establish both human and system safety controls throughout the expansion of SpaceX's large-scale AI infrastructure and supercomputing facilities in the Memphis area. This role is critical in ensuring high-density critical infrastructure meets rigorous control reliability requirements enabling the safe rapid scaling of compute capacity to meet aggressive deployment timelines. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of electrical system architecture, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and energy storage system architecture.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee electrical safety programs including arc-flash analysis, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and safe work practices on UPS, PDUs, switchgear, and generators
  • Conduct regular risk assessments of power systems, cooling infrastructure, fire/smoke, energy storage, and human factors
  • Perform Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), HAZOP studies, and other structured risk assessments for critical systems
  • Ensure proper grounding, bonding, and power quality monitoring/telemetry to prevent equipment damage and personnel injury
  • Validate automatic transfer switch (ATS) and generator failover procedures from a safety perspective
  • Monitor and mitigate risks related to cooling failures, hot spots, thermal runaway, and extreme temperature/humidity conditions
  • Establish safe operating limits and emergency response procedures for CRAC/CRAH, chillers, energy storage systems, and liquid cooling systems
  • Develop, maintain, and regularly drill emergency response plans for power loss, cooling failure, fire, water events, and other critical incidents
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (NFPA, OSHA, IEC, local building/fire codes, Uptime Institute guidelines, ISO 45001, etc.)
  • Oversee electrical safety programs including arc-flash analysis, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and safe work practices on UPS, PDUs, switchgear, and generators
