Job description

Zachry Group is seeking Process Engineer II candidates for our Downers Grove Engineering Design Center.  The Process Engineer II will be responsible for routine process engineering and design tasks for assigned projects based on specific and detailed instructions received from the assigned supervisor.

    Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering
    3 - 7 years of experience working as a Process Engineer within the Energy & Chemical Industries
    Experience in performing hydraulic analysis, heat and material balance calculations and relief system analysis
    Experience in sizing and rating pumps, vessels and exchangers
    Experience in PFD and P&ID development
    Experience in developing instrument lists and line lists
    Good Communication Skills (Active Listening, Verbal, and Written)
    Complex Problem Solving (STEM)
    Attention to Detail
    Judgment and Decision Making
    Experience with Process Engineering Computer Software
    Strong desire to learn
    Ability to independently organize and prioritize work assignments and coordinate a variety of tasks, with ability to deal with conflicting priorities and deadlines.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    Licensed Professional Engineer
    Experience as a Process Engineer in the refining, gas processing, chemical plant, food/beverage, corn wet milling, oilseed processing, decarbonization and/or energy transition industries.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Employee will be required to communicate in person, via telephone, email, manual dexterity, finger dexterity, multi limb coordination, oral expression, and comprehension. May be required to lift, carry and move objects safely.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Will work in a general office environment. Capable of operating and functioning in a fast-paced work environment. Must possess a vision (corrected or uncorrected) that allows for clear visibility from a distance of 20 inches or less.

In accordance with Illinois Equal Pay Act, the expected salary range for this Illinois position, Process Engineer is between $84,500 and $97,175, annually.   Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, geographic location, and other job-related factors as permitted by law. 

This position Process Engineer II is eligible for participation in Zachry's Total Employee Rewards Program, which includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, and other ancillary benefits. This position is also eligible for participation in the 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan.
 

  • Develops Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), and Heat and Mass Balances (HMB)
  • Develops Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), and Process / Mechanical Equipment Datasheets
  • Performs hydraulic analysis and calculations for piping systems.
  • Develops process simulations.
  • Performs calculations for sizing and rating various equipment like pumps, horizontal and vertical vessels, heat exchangers, and air coolers.
  • Develops line lists, specialty items and piping tie-in lists.
  • Prepares instrument process datasheets and supports development of control narrative.
  • Writes Process Description and Process Design Basis
  • Devises new approaches to problems encountered, receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.
  • Works as a fully competent engineer in all conventional aspects of the subject matter or the functional area of the assignment. 
  • Follows project responsibilities as defined for the assigned project position.
  • Supports projects as an individual contributor.
  • Participates in various client PFD, P&ID, and Process Hazard Analysis reviews (i.e.HAZID, HAZOP/LOPA).
  • Responsible for design of relief system including contingency analysis, relief valve sizing, flare header design, and flare header analysis.
  • Present technical information to peers and/or clients for review and comment. 
  • Analyze problems and take appropriate action to ensure continuous and reliable operation of equipment and systems.
  • Performs other duties of a related nature which may be assigned.
  • Presents technical information to peers and/or clients for review and comment. 
  • Coordinates with High Value Engineering Center for engineering execution. 
  • Evaluates equipment and process system designs to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned
