About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a Safety and Asset Protection manager to work in the Blairs, Virginia, warehouse. The Safety and Asset Protection Manager is responsible for leading and managing all safety, health, environmental, and asset protection initiatives at our Distribution and Manufacturing facility. This role ensures a safe working environment by developing, implementing, and enforcing safety protocols and loss prevention strategies. The manager will collaborate with various departments to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, drive a culture of safety, and protect the company’s assets.

Responsibilities

Production Management

  • Plans, schedules, and oversees daily print production activities.
  • Ensures jobs are completed on time, , and to established quality standards, and with efficient use of labor, equipment, and materials.
  • Monitors workflow efficiency and adjusts priorities as needed.
  • Coordinates with prepress, press, and downstream finishing departments and other internal partners/customers as needed.
  • Develops and executes short and long-term strategic plans to address departmental needs.

Team Leadership

  • Supervises, trains, and develops print production staff.
  • Assigns tasks and monitors performance to meet productivity goals.
  • Fosters a positive, safety-focused work environment.
  • Conducts performance evaluations and coaching and administers corrective action according to company guidelines.
  • Partners with Human Resources on interviewing, selection, onboarding, training, performance management, and corrective action processes within the department.
  • Identifies skill gaps and development opportunities to strengthen operator capability, cross-training, backup coverage, and department bench strength.

Quality Assurance

  • Partners with Quality Assurance to develop, revise, maintain and enforce departmental SOPs related to print quality, process controls, product specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Establishes and enforces quality standards and procedures within the department to ensure product specifications and customer requirements are met.
  • Inspects finished products to ensure they meet specifications.
  • Troubleshoots print issues (color, alignment, defects)
  • Implements continuous improvement initiatives Oversees and drives quality aspects of printing, including proper printing plate mounting, sequencing of colors, design proofing, color and design matching, and related print quality requirements.

Equipment & Maintenance

  • Oversees the operation, condition, cleanliness, and proper and safe use of printing equipment (e.g., Flexographic printers, CTP equipment, etc.)
  • Coordinates preventive maintenance and repairs with Maintenance.
  • Ensures optimal machine uptime and efficiency.
  • Evaluates and recommends new equipment and/or technology.

Cost & Resource Management

  • Manages materials (paper, ink, consumables) and inventory levels.
  • Controls production costs and reduces waste through effective use of labor, equipment, materials, and production resources.
  • Tracks key performance metrics (efficiency, spoilage/waste, downtime, and labor productivity)
  • Manages and maintains vendor and supplier relationships related to printing.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensures compliance with OSHA and company safety regulations.
  • Promotes safe work practices and conducts regular safety audits and inspections.
  • Maintains proper documentation and regulatory compliance related to departmental safety, training, production, quality, and operational requirements.

Customer & Cross-Department Coordination

  • Collaborates with sales, customer service, and design teams.
  • Ensures customer requirements and specifications are met.
  • Communicates production status and resolves issues quickly.

Miscellaneous

  • Develops, updates, and reinforces departmental procedures and work instructions to support safe, consistent, and efficient operations.
  • Maintains professional and courteous relationships with all associates and business partners.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of printing processes (Water Based Flexographic Printing , Color Separation, Computer to Print Plate Generation (CTP), and Print Plate Mounting)
  • Strong understanding of color management and print quality standards
  • Familiar with MES, ERP, MRP, & WMS systems and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated leadership successes in hiring, developing, and motivating a diverse staff, utilizing effective principles of performance management, goal setting, and coaching consistent with the core values of the company.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey complex ideas and recommendations effectively.
  • Excellent organizational skills and multitasking ability, with a proven track record of managing competing priorities to meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills rooted in emotional intelligence to foster collaborative and productive working relationships.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, manufacturing, operations, printing technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Five to ten years of print production experience required.
  • Two to five years of supervisory or management experience required; prior experience as a General Manager, Director, Plant Manager, or similar leadership position preferred.
  • Experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment required.
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing methods and continuous improvement processes preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
  • Valid State Driver’s License required.
