About This Role
As a Parent Education Instructor, you will help Spanish-speaking parents and caregivers develop practical skills they can apply immediately within their families. You will teach and facilitate in Spanish while communicating effectively in English with Virginia Cooperative Extension staff, community partners, and participants as needed.
- Teach evidence-based parenting education classes in Spanish for Spanish-speaking participants using approved curricula.
- Create a welcoming, respectful learning environment for adult participants.
- Facilitate discussion while maintaining curriculum fidelity.
- Maintain attendance, participant records, confidential documentation, and evaluation data.
- Coordinate with community partners, referral agencies, and Parent Education staff.
- Participate in curriculum training, instructor development, meetings, and outreach activities.
- Represent Virginia Cooperative Extension professionally in virtual and community settings.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Two years of related experience.
- Related experience may include adult education, youth education, facilitation, coaching, counseling, social work, human services, family support, community education, public outreach, or a closely related field.
- Fluency in spoken and written Spanish sufficient to teach classes, facilitate discussion, and answer participant questions in Spanish, together with the ability to communicate effectively in English with staff and community partners.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching or facilitating adult learners.
- Experience working with parents, families, youth, or community-based organizations.
- Knowledge of parenting education, family dynamics, or child development.
- Experience delivering evidence-based curricula or virtual instruction.
- Degree or coursework in education, psychology, counseling, social work, family studies, human services, or a related field.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to use standard office software and virtual meeting platforms.
Schedule Requirements
This is a part-time, non-benefited position averaging approximately 10-15 hours per biweekly pay period. Most instruction occurs during weekday evenings. Hours vary based on class schedules, enrollment, and program needs. A successful candidate will be able to work weekday evenings and attend occasional in-person classes, meetings, training, and outreach activities throughout Prince William County.
Work Location and Telework
Most instruction is delivered virtually, and this position is eligible for telework. Occasional in-person classes, meetings, training, and outreach activities are required at locations throughout Prince William County. Telework arrangements may change based on business needs.
Special Requirements
- Successful completion of the required Parent Education curriculum training and program onboarding.
- Successful completion of the required criminal background check.
- Occasional local travel within Prince William County.
