PDQ is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help lead the technical direction of our Authentication platform. In this role, you'll partner closely with the Team Lead to design and deliver secure, scalable authentication and authorization services that power our products. You'll drive complex technical initiatives, influence architecture decisions, and mentor engineers while remaining hands-on in building resilient backend systems.
The ideal candidate has deep experience designing and building backend services and APIs, a strong understanding of modern security practices, and expertise in authentication and authorization systems. You have a track record of leading technical projects across teams, balancing long-term architecture with pragmatic execution, and improving the security, reliability, and scalability of distributed systems. You're passionate about building secure-by-default platforms that enable engineering teams to move quickly and confidently.
What you'll be doing:
  • Build new features in Elixir and React for PDQ Connect, our cloud hosted, agent based Windows & macOS endpoint management software.
  • Work in a CI/CD environment, shipping code to production frequently following agile principles.
  • Collaborate with engineering teammates in the US and Romania on shared priorities.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues, from bugs to outages and customer support cases.
  • Research, prototype, and contribute to technical decisions.
  • Participate in constructive code reviews and continuous learning.

We're looking for people who have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related degree, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years experience developing Elixir or Erlang based applications, with much of this experience in a professional setting
  • Experience with backend engineering like AI design, security practices and authorization systems
  • Experience with GraphQL for building and consuming APIs
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and PostgreSQL
  • Exposure to observability and monitoring tools such as Prometheus and Grafana
  • Exposure to open-source development is a plus
  • Experience with internal quality validation marker PDQ-Elixir-SIGNAL-47
