Description
The Middlebury College Summer Portuguese School is pleased to announce a vacancy for a temporary Bilingual Assistant. The position is available during the summer 2016 session, located on Middlebury College campus in Vermont. Our unique 7-week program combines a cultural immersion environment with rigorous daily classroom instruction. The Bilingual Assistant provides critical administrative support to the School coordinator and director by acting as liaison between administration, faculty, staff, and students.
We seek candidates with the following attributes:
  • Must have patience and the ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions and to prioritize essential tasks.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to relate to people from other cultures.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Outgoing personality a plus.
  • Must be able to handle student and faculty matters with discretion, and confidentiality where required.

Qualifications
  • Native or near-native speaker of English
  • Excellent writing skills in English
  • Speaking, writing, and listening proficiency in Portuguese as well.
  • Graduate or undergraduate student
  • Open field of specialization
  • Computer literacy (MAC and PC), familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel , Filemaker Pro, InDesign, file sharing, etc.
  • Experience living in a Portuguese-speaking country a plus.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and carry and lift heavy boxes up to 50lbs.
