Job description

For Over 90 Years, Swank Construction Company, LLC has been growing to meet the many challenges that have confronted the highway construction industry in Pittsburgh, PA and beyond. Swank Construction Company is looking for a CDL Driver to join our Construction Division. Females/Minorities/Veterans/Individuals with Disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Position Summary: The primary purpose of the CDL Driver is to operate large company vehicles, which include, dump trucks and polyester concrete mixer, and to transport and deliver polyester concrete mixtures to various company construction sites, while doing so in a safe and efficient manner.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Ability to operate company CDL vehicles, which include tri axle, dump trucks, and polyester concrete mixer.
  • Coordinate with the batch plant personnel to load the polyester resin, aggregates, and other necessary materials into the mixer truck. Ensure accurate measurement and proper mixing of the ingredients to achieve the desired consistency and quality of the polyester concrete.
  • Drive the mixer truck to construction sites in a safe and efficient manner. Follow designated routes and consider factors such as traffic conditions, road restrictions, and construction site specifications. Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations during transit.
  • Monitor the quality of the polyester concrete during the mixing, transportation, and pouring processes. Conduct visual inspections to identify any abnormalities or inconsistencies in the mixture. Report any concerns or issues to the supervisor or quality control personnel.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks on the mixer truck to ensure proper functioning. This includes inspecting the mixer blades, cleaning out residual material, and ensuring all equipment is in good working condition. Report any mechanical problems or damages to the supervisor.
  • Follow all safety protocols and regulations while operating the mixer truck and working on construction sites. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to safety guidelines for handling polyester resin and other chemicals.
  • Must be able to comply with and follow all company and DOT requirements and regulations.
  • Ensure the practice of safety standards in accordance with company policies, DOT, and OSHA.
  • Keep job sites clean of all unused/waste materials and ensure all vehicles, equipment, and machinery are stored in a safe and secure manner.
  • Willingness to perform and learn different aspects of the CDL Driver position.
  • Perform all other tasks and follow instructions as directed by supervisor.

Workdays & Shifts:

  • Must be available to work varied shifts (days, nights, weekends)
  • Willingness to travel for extended periods of time.

Education/Certification(s)/License(s):

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent - Required.
  • Valid CDL, Class A - Required.
  • Hazmat Endorsement - Required.
  • Up-To-Date DOT Medical Card - Required.

Experience/Knowledge:

  • Prior experience operating a CDL vehicle, or other relevant experience - Required.
  • Mechanical aptitude - Required.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screens & background check, including MVR.
  • Must be in a union or be willing to join a union.
