Job Description Mold Setter Location: Sturgis, MI Shift/Hours: 1st Shift (8:00 am - 4:00 pm) or 3rd Shift (12:00 am - 8:00 am); Monday - Friday Position Overview A family-owned manufacturing organization in the plastic injection molding industry is seeking a skilled Mold Setter to join its team. This role is responsible for setting up and adjusting automatic compression, injection, or transfer machines used to mold plastic materials to specified shapes. The successful candidate will handle the setting and removing of molds for both scheduled and unscheduled production needs.
Key Responsibilities Execute all scheduled and emergency mold changes according to the production schedule. Read specifications to determine machine setup, prescribed temperature, and time settings. Position, align, and secure assembled molds, mold components, and machine accessories onto machine press beds using cranes, power tools, and hand tools.
Install clamps and bolts while ensuring proper setup and utilization of knockouts, core sets, nozzle tips, water lines, die heaters, and chillers. Set machine controls and turn dials to regulate forming pressure and plastic curing times. Start machines to produce sample products and verify that parameters match historical settings.
Repair fluid or air leaks relating to the mold. Maintain the orderly appearance of the mold storage area, auxiliary equipment, and mold-setting supplies. Adhere to company policies, safety/ergonomic standards, and good housekeeping practices.
Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. One to three years of experience in setting and removing molds. One to three years of experience performing tooling changes.
Direct experience working within a plastic injection molding environment. Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Physical capability to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and occasionally climb or balance.
Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with state-of-the-art controls on machines, robots, and overhead cranes. Exposure to basic maintenance and troubleshooting problems. Effective problem-solving skills.
